^^^Yep, 4L80, Turbo 400 or a Powerglide. Anything else is on borrowed time.

You would need a 4L80E , 400 OR POWER GLIDE FOR THAT if your looking for a 60/65e to do it long term it wont happen.
Any of the vendors here us included can supply a 400 or 4l80e for your needs

A 400 or a 4l80e would be your best choice. Obviously the 80 is a 4 speed and the 400 will only be a 3 speed. If you you do not mind loosing OD then a TH400 would be a good choice. Make sure to get one with a billet input shaft and a good sprag style direct drum. If we can be of service please give us a call for pricing. Vince

look up rpm transmission. There is a 900hp vette with a rpm tranny down a force fed performance that gets abused everyday and drives and shifts fine until this day and its still a 4l60e

Not bashing RPM as they are good friends, is that flywheel or rear wheel? I have two vets with FLT transmissions that tip over 800rwhp.

There might be some 60's with that power, but it is a matter of when not if it will fail. I would definitely suggest a 4L80 if you want OD and lock up converter or a 400. They will still be expensive builds, but they will hold up to the abuse at that power level.

Thanks everyone.
Let me give you a bit of background on my plans. I came from the grand prix world. My race car / daily driver (i was 19 so it doubled for both) was a 95 Grand prix that we swapped the L67 into and built it up to about 300fwhp with stock heads and no IC. I blew up the car, got married etc etc...

Long story short I want to start my next project this winter to be completed by next September. My plan is to take my 99 TA which is currently stock. Use it as a toy for the track. I want to hit 1,000hp on the dyno, but then tune it back for the street since I doubt a 1,000hp car will be reliable enough to drive to work when i want to get there fast But turning the boost down and having it at about 800hp should be fine (screw gas mileage, I'm not building this car for it to have great MPG, that's what the beater is for.

What was interresting about the GP world is that you have 2 or 3 vendors for your part choices, Company A, B or build it yourself.

Now in the LS1 world there's literally hundreds, just looking for some opinions about who can do what. Thanks to all the good info so far.

what did the 4L80 trans come from?

I have a friend running a built C5R block with a 90mm turbo setup on a vette. Car is tipping the scales at a lil shy of 1100HP and it sees DD duty most of the summer

hey SOM

That truck 4L80 trans, isn't that the trans they used with the 6L cast iron block engines too?
so It looks like that is where I should start for my powertrain. get a wrecked 2500, strip it down, build it up bolt it in.

ps an engine swap is technically a bolt on mod in my opinion since there are bolts holding it to the car

80 IMO, you can have something tough and still retain the ability to drive around without revving your nuts off.

Is the 400/Powerglide stronger than the 80E????

If so, will the gearvendors OD being installed on either the 400 or Powerglide be able to handle a car putting down say 1,300 RWHP???
