Default Brake line opinions

So I am back on my brake lines for the next project. I want ss braided lines. My pedal feels much squishier than the brembos on my Camaro with the ss lines the brake pedal was like stepping on a brick. I feel like I can pretty much bottom out the v but it still has a pretty decent pedal. (I have flushed the fluid more than once)

Seems like everyone that makes the lines for this car has failure issues. No bueno and I don't want to go earls and making fittings on a dd. Too much to go wrong. Found an old thread where a guy got a set of lines off a c5 to fit. Fronts dropped in but he backs needed an adapter. What's your though on buying a set for a 5th gen Camaro? Came with the same calipers.

I can't speak for sure to the interchange, but it makes sense to me. I will say, I've had SS lines put on most of my vehicles (f-body, Suburban, etc) and will do so on this car at the next brake job. I've used the Goodridge lines from tirerack and I've never had any issues. Most of the improved pedal feel comes with simply a good flush and bleed, seen that many times in a past life. I am of the belief that the stainless lines simply maintain that "new line" feel instead of softening over time, still worth it to me.

Are there threads about all of the brake line failures? I must've missed those. I've had UUC lines (at least, I think they're UUC) on my car since 2008 or 2009. Maybe I've gotten lucky?

What do you mean by "making fittings"?

It was suggested before to use earls performance "universal" brake lines to make your own. I'm not up for the non dot approved options.

My Goodridge set has been awesome. been on for about 3 years or so and I definitely noticed a firmer pedal after original installation.

Yep, if you have to go DOT, you can't go wrong with the RacingBrake BL920. I was happy with them--they sealed correctly on the back right corner, unlike my Goodridge lines.

I got them from Modern Automotive Performance. They are not shown on their site, but just send them a message and they'll get them for you.

The right rear requires special attention as there are two lines involved.

The fitting (explained by GOODRIDGE ) has a better entry way (non taper) and their fitting is made of better material then the OEM, so any distortion of the threads on the mate will bind on the GOODRIDGE.

What GOODRIDGE told me to do was to "chase" the threads on the mate with a 3/8 24 fine die.

Thanks for the tip on chasing the threads on the original mating fittings. Getting ready to install my Goodridge lines and I'll chase the fittings as necessary "just in case".

Same here. I've got UUC's which I believe are now labeled as Girodisc from Luke at Lindsay. Installed for the same amount of time and on a fully converted race car. No issues nor have I heard of any...

Here's a writeup on Goodridge installation.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/cadillac-...tallation.html

I didn't have any fitment issues on my set - so I can't speak to those who had the issues requiring additional work.

5 years later, no leaks, no problems after multiple flushes.

So even after bleeding the system the lines feel a little better(as in barley noticeable) for a week or so then they are back to mushy and being able to bottom out the pedal. Anyone replace the master?

Well thanks to the Amazon gift cards I bought the goodridge lines this morning. While I'm already there I think I will just replace the master and get it over with most likely the lines are my issue but that should cover it all. Can't see the bleeders letting air in and not letting fluid out so I will leave the calipers alone for now.

Did you get air in the ABS? That's the easiest way to screw up a brake job. Also, do you know the correct bleeding pattern? It's a triangular system (I pulled this from Cadillac FAQ)
* Right rear inner
* Right rear outer
* Left front inner
* Left front outer
* Left rear inner
* Left rear outer
* Right front inner
* Right front outer

I am familiar with the pattern, I have never messed with anything that would let air into the abs but that's not to say a previous owner didn't. It's a kick in the nuts the brakes on my '12 Camaro where so much better and it's the same system. (Loved bedding in the pads, with the sport comps on there it would literally pull the glasses off your face when you got aggressive with em)

Hopefully next week I can knock it out. Dunno if the faster is the issue or not but I don't want to do it twice so new lines, master, and I will flush the abs module and all should be right as rain.
