Default IRS FAB 9 for the CTS-V

Ok guys, I thought I would start my own thread on this to seperate it from the other one.

We have the first base IRS FAB 9 housing done, from here we will tool up to attach the brackets on the rear and front to bolt into the CTS-V mounting points.
One road block though, it wont be a bolt in kit. There will be some required cutting and boxing in of one area that is shown below.
It can still be sold as a kit though.

Here is the stock CTS-V rear in the cradle.

The white lines are where the cutting has to be done. Once this area is cut, it will need to be boxed in (steel plates welded in for strengthening). This will give the IRS FAB 9 housing room to fit where it needs to be.

Here is the IRS FAB 9 housing before we add the CTS-V mounts.
It's all CNC machined parts, designed on 3-D CAD and it fit together perfect

Here is the IRS FAB 9 housing sitting in the CTS-V cradle but it needs to go back and down a bit, that is why we have to cut the white lined area out.

I'll post up some more pics once I get the back area cut out and the mounts welded on.

Thanks
Chris

I'm guessing not cheap?

Are there any off-the-shelf 9" IRS pumpkins or are they all custom jobs?

I think I'd be more interested in a Viper rear. 9" is going to rob alot of HP, and a major handling compromise no?

In the F Body the swap from the 10 bolt to a inch has no noticeable impact on horsepower. This is an IRS FAB 9 housing, why it is going to affect handling?

Nice job G Force!

Isn't the Viper rear a Dana 44? Is it really that much stronger than a '07 V rear diff?

The F-body is a solid rear, and as far as every 9" I have ever put in a car (maybe 50 of them) everyone sacrificed HP on the dyno from a 10 bolt. What is the weight of the 9" center section vs. a stock one?

They make high pinion cases for 9" rears. Normal 9's have a low pinion that are strong but rob power. A high mount pinion brings the loss more in line with Ford 8.8" and 12 bolt GM rears.

Congrates on the build.

I cant belive people are worried about losing 10whp.

I figure if you have the cash to do a 9" swap, the car must be making some serious power and 10-15 hp loss should be nothing to cry about.

Thanks guys

We've been bustin butt on this project, after the CTS-V we are starting on the Camaro, G8 and the GTO.

The complete kit will come with the fabbed housing, 300m axles and a one piece driveshaft in either 3.5" aluminum or 3.75" carbon fiber.
You can use an off the shelf pumpkin or we can supply a built pumpkin from Strange Engineering.
As far as price, a complete kit including a built pumpkin will run about $5500.
I'll provide more details as soon as we get production going on these things.

Here is a teaser pic of the completed CTS-V 9"
All we have to finish up is the bushing for the front mount. We'll be using a BMR bushing and I need to talk to Kyle @ BMR to see which one would work best.

Now we'll build tooling around this bad boy so we can duplicate it for production.
