Default Help Choosing a Carb

Im new to the ls motors. I just purchased a 5.3 with 862 heads and i will be carbing it. Im going with the Holley 300-130 dual plane intake annd was trying to see what would be a good carb to go with. Im just trying to get the most power out of it without nitrous or a turbo? Any suggestions would be great thanks

Hey Ls1box! Welcome to LS1tech!

Your question would do better here in the external engine section.

Which carburetor is an important choice. Make sure you share all the details of your project and how you will be driving it. There are lots of helpful people in this section which will gladly share their experience.

its going in a 1980 caprice landua. It will just be my weekend cruiser. as of now its stock rear end which i will probably upgrade to 4.10 gears. the motor has a tsunami cam 648/609 and 862 heads on it now. Im gonna switch cams because i dont intend on putting a turbo or nitrous as of now. what would be a good cam to get the most hp just off motor?

Tsunami 235/240 .648"/.609" Camshaft With Your Choice of Lobe Seperation (111 LSA Standard)
The Tsunami camshaft features aggressive lobes that requires a good double valve spring kit. For customers looking for a quality double valve spring kit, we recommend the PRC .650" & .675" double spring kits. Both spring packages will easily handle this camshaft. The new more aggressive intake lobes & small changes to the camshaft design has allowed us to create more peak power while bringing power in early in the rpm band. With the Tsunami camshaft we typically recommend the customer have atleast a 3500 rpm stall converter for automatic cars. Tuning will also be required in both automatic & manual applications. Texas Speed offers complete mail order tuning services to get your vehicles pcm custom tuned for your modifications.
The Tsunami camshaft is a large max effort camshaft that has slightly more p/v clearance than the Magic Stick line of camshafts.
I'd keep it and Stick a 750 on it.

How much stall converter do you have? Also, what type of idle do you want? Stealthy or thumpin'?

I think the Quick Fuel carburetors are a MUCH better deal. With Quick Fuel, you get billet metering blocks with replaceable bleeds. This almost always is needed to finely tune the carburetors drivability and part throttle a/f ratios.
