Question Center exhaust??

Was the center exhaust on the 4th Gen SS a an option at time of order or was there another reason only a few have it?
Also those that have it Pros/Cons?
Looking at buying a new SS (new for me) here in FL and am looking at one with the center exhaust.
Thx,
Wayne

Are you talking about the CMEs? Center mount exhaust I believe was an option from SLP back in the day. Idk if SLP is doing that again with the 5th if that's what you mean by new Camaro, haven't seen anything like that personally. But that would be sweet if so!

Default SS center exhaust

I'm talking about the 4th Gen SS, you don't see a lot of the center exhaust just a few.
was just wondering which SS get's them?

If I remeber the SS package ( all SS were built by SLP) was a option added to the regular Z28 ( option was about 2800.00 ) then there was several other options which could be added to the SS package, the CME option was about 7-900 or there about over and above the regular SS package, not sure but I think the quad tips were on the 01 ' and the duel tips on the 02 ( I have both sets which I bought from members here on LS1TECH, not sure which I like )
any one with a better answer jump in
Johnny

I can not find a picture of my quads right now , here are are two views of my car

I love that rear valence that the tips sit in...

Why is the rear valence installed upsidedown?

If you find a car without CME you like, you can always buy a repro CME. 6litereater makes the valence, and tips.

The center mount exaust (cme) was only available as an option on the 01 and 02 ss's. ALL came with the dual center. The quad center is an SLP after-market item to make it more "vette-like". These two systems utilize different rear valances as well (the one seen above is from a quad-tip aftermarket piece from SLP, although it's upside down). If factory equipped, the CME option is the easiest way to tell that the car has the "345hp" package from SLP. This also means that the car came equipped with the elusive blackwing air-lid (if a previous owner didn't remove it for a crappy aftermarket piece). Other option on the 345 package was SPL dual-dual exaust (non-center mounted) I think.

I've done some research on it as well:

CME was only available in '01 and '02, and cost about $1200, whereas the dual-dual (quad tips) from SLP was about 7-800$.

For both systems, there were two options, a 335HP option which was just the exhaust, and the 345HP option which consisted of the exhaust (either CME or dual-dual) and the Blackwing air lid. I believe most cars have the 345 option; the ones with the 335 were early in the production run.

The original CME's are highly sought after because of their rarity - I believe about 700 Camaro SS's from 2002 are equipped with the system. This is why you'll see the tips and valence going for astronomical prices (for used parts at least).

As far as problems, the only thing I've heard is that the weld connecting the two tips can break, but this is easily remedied by someone capable of welding aluminum.

its a $1200 option on an slp car. i suggest buying a car that already has it. i saved some money piecing mine out here an there. i bought a factory valence off someone on here and bought oem cme tips plus had the valence painted to my color car. your looking at 1k to do it as an add on.

like you said, it is not something you see often at all and it looks awesome compared to any other exhaust exit on our cars. the icing on the cake though, is that it gives the exhust a much deeper throater sound and when you give her a little throttle she sounds real sweet. if you plan on keeping your car for a long time i say do it. if not, go with a magna flow catback. matter of fact i still have my tips unused
