Starting my LS1 Panoz (cobra 4.6L Mod) Swap I am swapping the All Aluminum Cobra 4.6L mod motor out of my Panoz GT-WC car and replacing it will an LS1/LS6.
The car has a tremec 3550 transmission so I used the Quicktime bellhousing, SBC clutch fork and TO bearing
Still doing a lot of planning, and getting the motor built up.
Donor motor is a 2004 vette motor with 17k miles on it.
Some initial pics of the motor build. more to come.

And of course this is the car it's going in

Thanks, i don't know a ton about the LS1 so i'm sure I'l lbe picking the brains of some of the guys on here. I know the old big block and SBC pretty well so there are some similarities anyway.
I will hopefully have the motor done in the next few weeks and can start actually swapping motors!

No real updates, just getting started. I have a pile of parts on the way, so hopefully by late next week everything will be in. I'll be out of town next weekend so the week after is when I'll really get started

It currently weighs @ 2850lbs but with the Ls1 and a few other tweaks it should be closer 2650lbs
small update, just working on fabrication the motor mounts, using existing Ford cobra mounts and modifying them..
I think I need to move to an internalhyrdaulic throwout bearing as the new one will likey run into clearance issues.

SUCCESS!
It's in there, my fab'd motor mounts fit PERFECTLY!
before and after!
Also converted the Ford Tremec TKO/3550 over to a 26spline 1-1/8" input shaft to accept the Ls1 clutch setup
man look at all the room in there!

It's ALIVE!!!
After some troubleshooting, it's alive! Still alot left to do to get it track worthy though
Watch the first video, especially humurous..."someone" nicked an oil line with an amgle grinder and the oil pressure was a bit to high for the weakened hose!

It's still running a little rough, the carb is not even close to being tuned, and the headers are not connected to the rest of the exhaust!
But at least i know it starts!

Carbs will almost always make more power, EFI is great for Fuel economy and emissions, but a well setup carb can and will usually make more power. On top of that it adds a level of simplicity, less stuff to fail, easier to tune at the track if needed. In racing in order to finish first, first you have to finish!
So the less stuff that can fail, the better off you are!
The 4.6 was painted blue by Panoz Auto Development, they take a stock aluminum 4.6L add forged internals and a few goodies and use them in thier cars.
