how do i get this map sensor off without breaking it, and where should i relocate it on a carbureted setup

Use a small screwdriver to pop the strap off. Next pull it out of the retainer clips. It wont be in there very good

Once its out youll see if has a rubber grommet (discard) and a ported manifold bung. Hook a vacuum line to the bung and connect to any vacuum source

Anywhere in the cooling system you can find a place for it. Radiator nipple, heater core hose fitting, hole in the WP, etc

Do a search on here. There are about a jillion ideas on the best way and place to hook it in. Lots of pictures too. IMO you definately need to hook it back into the system. Ron

Since you are running a carb why would you need a MAP sensor? You're going to have to run one of those MSD boxes for the coils and it isn't required.

it is required to hook into the msd box along with the cam and crank sensors and the coils.

Really? Looking back I guess it makes sense from a timing adjustment angle. I assume that would be the reference for your vacuum advance on the MSD, correct?

I knew there was a reason I wasn't running a carb!

The map sensor isn't required with the MSD box. It is only needed if you want to run vacuum advance. Generally a good idea.

I plugged it into an unported vacuum port on the carb, then made a metal tab out of scrap sheet metal and mounted it to the coil packs. Pretty easy to do.

i wouldnt run a street car with a carburetor without vacuum advance. i care about mileage somewhat, and i'm not going to throw away money for no reason.
