Default 97 LT1 Formula to LQ4 Swap Begins

Well I have purchased this beauty for 1k .
I have a 2002 LQ4 Engine with 100k Miles.
I will be posting the progress of my work done to it.
From Removing the LT1 to Dropping the LQ4 Engine in.

Here is the beginning of the long task i have awaited for

Enjoy

And for those that have completed a task similar like this.
Since this is a 97 LT1 and of course its Obd2.

Would I be able to swap the LT1 gauge cluseter to an LS1 gauge cluster and call it a day when it comes to the LS1 wire harness? without doing modifications to the LS1 harness?

The easiest way to do the harness on the swap is to modify the LS1 harness or have us build you a brand new plug and play one. If you do not want to tackle the harness yourself we can modify the ls1 harness you have or build you a new one. Feel free to call if you have any questions.

Both options will be plug and play and the harness will come labeled.

Well i have not touched my car for the passed few days. waiting for the car title to arrive before i put money into it. Was also wondering for those people that have already done this swap on a formula or 97 LT1. What kind of CAI did you guys use? If you have any pics of the setup that would be awesome. Thanks.

I'm currently in the middle of a 99 LS1 into a LT1 formula 97 formula right now.

You don't need to swap out your cluster when you get the computer programed you just have to change a parameter for the tach and then use a 98 coolant sensor.

You're going to have to get a LS1 K member and motor mounts, the a arms shocks, springs will all fit from the LT1. LS1 Steering rack and knuckle.

On the CAI you can use any LT1 CAI, or make an LS1 lid work...it works really easy with a WS6 hood I've read.

If your using an LS1 Auto then you will need to add an plate onto the crossmember of the LT1 xmember as the tranny sits further back, you can't use the LS1 auto xmember it doesn't fit the body. You can use the LT1 tranny the electronics and everything hook up from 97 but you need a conversion kit.

I'm going to send you a PM on some parts and stuff. Let me know if you have any questions I'd be happy to help there are some great resources on here.

I'm in the middle of doing this swap myself on my car... only I'm taking my time and doing a whole bunch of other work at the same time.

Budget LS1 rebuild
Smooth the engine bay
Stand-up Griffen Radiator (To prep for a future TT setup)
BMR high-clearance pedistal motor mount K-Member
TR6060 Tranny
CTSV or newer Camaro Brake Setup
Full Heim-Jointed suspension
etc...

YESSS !! My title has been transferred and i should receive it sometime this week.
This weekend is going to be full of surprises, lol.
I will also be making a post of my LT1 parts that i will no longer need.
It will mostly be LT1 engine intake to oil pan pcm and harness parts.
Bad side is that the engine has bad head gaskets and needs a rebuild and it has 213k miles.
With that said i will sale it for cheap. Without the transmission which i will use for the swap.
I will also do a my 1st 4L60e transmission rebuild with a truetech master rebuild kit.

k member, compressor, alternator, starter, and rack and pinion are left to buy here in a few weeks.

so far i have spent around $2,300 and around $2000 to go.

Looks like it's going to be a nice swap.
Clean body to start with.
Good luck with it.
