If $ isn't a problem. go LSx454. You will get used to the 376 power and want more.

I do plan to carb. I was going to do the MSD 6010 box and no distributor, I see it needs an oil pan, intake, coil packs, plug wires, water pump, and ????
And there's always nitrous

454 = bigger cubic inches,bigger cam,and .3 more comp.

376 = dinky cam,and gives up a few inches. Would a bigger cam help (yes) and how much ?

454 all the way. It's more than a few cubes larger-

If they are both built right, the 454 could pull an additional 80-100+rwhp

well how fast do you want to go? hahaha. Go with the 454 if you even think you really want it(and have the $$$) the 454 will get to your performance level in a milder state of tune.
1. - be certain to know the tooth count of the crank sensor, you need a 6012 MSD for 58x reluctor, which I believe both of those motors have.
2. my 364 really like my 850 mighty demon, dont put a small carb on either 1.
3. 1 7/8" headers for sure
if $$ are an issue after purchase of the engine go to the junk yard for truck coil packs/starter/waterpump/alternator.
I mounted my alternator low on the drivers side, it VERY tight down there, but it fit with a custom made mount bracket, and the longer truck crank damper/pulley.
4. Use 1" setback mount plates to get the engine to fit to the trans, without having to move the trans/driveshaft.
5. you need a .4" spacer between the crank and flexplate.
I used a stock truck pan and cut it down, but in hind site I should have got a larger capacity pan - I like the Moroso 20141, but its remote filter fyi.

I'm sure there are more small details, but that all I can come up with off the top of my head.

seriously, unless your going for 1500hp, you dont need a lsx. the great thing about these motors is how much power you can make out of factory parts!!!

Yep, that's the reason there aren't more LSX 454's out there.

Wasn't sure where you were headed with the original post.

Scoggin Dickey has the LSX 454 for $9300. Figure in some more $$ for the extras your going to need. For the money, the LSX 454 is a really good deal for what your getting. You can try to build your own but it's going to cost more. The LSX376 is ok if your going to supercharge it, it has a very mild, 9.0:1 compression.

For $10K I could have a very nasty BBC in the 800hp+ range

I want to stay SBC (Dart block or LS)...I guess I'll have to check around the yards some ?
I guess I should start looking for an LS3

That's $9300 for just the long block. Bumps up to $17K for a turn key Mast motor.

I agree, lot of performance for the dollar, but that is more than most guy's swaps.

Sorry for bring back from the dead. But you're wrong:
http://www.jegs.com/i/GM%20Performan...0002/-1?CT=999

$9600 isn't to shabby for an iron block-6 bolt main/6 bolt per cylinder- engine with a warranty and 620 crank hp.

Throw a different cam in there and maybe valvesprings if needed and bam that becomes 700 hp no problem.

I vote for the LSX376, love mine, buildt for boost, under $6K, slap a basic supercharger on it for $6K more and you have a power house..
