Default Lsx/T56 Mazda Rx8 Build Thread.. Pics inside

Hey guys, i joined this forum soley for the purpose to gather information and research as much as i could before i started my project. Little bit of background i have a 2006 Mazda Rx8 and put a greddy turbo kit on it and ran it for a while then got board with it, then i decided i wanted to do an engine swap. After bouncing back and fourth between either doing a 3 rotor swap, or a 2jz.. i finally landed on the lsx swap.

So finally here are the pics i have so far. Keep in mind im a college student so funds are not that adundant lol, but as i get the money i will keep getting more parts as available.

This was what the car started as, when i started tearing into it, had the greddy turbo kit and alot of goodies on it.

AC lines and other misc stuff came out, im actually surprised at how much room the engine bay has, it looked so cluttered with the small rotary, but actaully its pretty big

Now that its getting closer to being totally tore down the next step is getting it all cleaned up, and repainting it. On that note anyone have a hint on the best way to get this old paint off?? Airplane paint thinner maybe i heard it works good??

irish350- My plans are to put the 243 heads, ls6 intake, and a tsp 228r camshaft in the lm7 5.3. Along with new rockers, and springs, and then of course bolt up a t56 and drop it in and fly around haha.

Also on a side note for whoever stumbles across my build, anyone know the torque specs for the head bolts? thanks

You might want to think about putting 4.8L pistons (flat tops) in it so you don't lower your comp too much with the larger CC chambers on the 243 heads. That is if your plans are to keep it n/a.

I don't think the compression drop is massive, but just the same I'd do the math and have the heads shaved to try and compensate for the differences in CC.

I think the 5.3(dish) pistons with 243 heads ends up around 9.0-9.1to1 area. And flat tops with 243's end up at 9.9to1.

Thanks for the comp number info trav-tech!

Iroc-
With the stock greddy turbo kit (what i had) It made 260whp 212wtq. And to anwser your question Iroc the turbo the kit came with is a T618Z 10cm2 turbo. So fairly small lol but it was fun to drive aorund.

Pics of the wiring work i got done today, and the pcm and harness should be up tonight but no promises.

Default Hi Jabjr26

Just started conversion last weekend, LS2 6L with T56 tranny behind it into mazda RX8. Have you sourced an oil pan yet.

Sorry for no update in a while guys but like I said at the beginning I am a full time engineering student and I have been super busy since the semester started. However, I did get a cam from texas speed, and I am in the process of repainting the engine bay, so hopefully update pics will be up soon.

Clive----- that looks awesome so far, I haven't sourced an oil pan yet, from what I have heard the vette or gto pan will work best, but I haven't researched it yet I just heard from word of mouth..And just curious are you making your own motor mounts and everything to get it seated, or are you using hinson or another company?
