5.3 or 6.0 price diff.
I have been watching in the local area for a good deal on a motor to swap into my cj7. I really would like to go with a 6.0 however it seems like the prices have gone way up around here; my question is it worth it. It will be mostly street driven some mild off road snow and sand dunes.
I found a 2000 5.3 near complete missing alternator, bolts for the accessories, flexplate, coils and wiring harness/ecu it has 50 k miles on it and the guy is hoping to get $500. Seems like ok price however I have not been watching the 5.3l as much.
Seems like lately around here the 6.0 are all $1200 or higher with over 100k miles. Most of which are not coming with any accessories or wiring ecu.
What do you guys think is it worth the extra cash to go 6.0 get the extra displacement and options of l92 heads? Is that a good deal on the 5.3l ?

I got a complete 6.0 from an 06 silverado for 1500. If you want to upgrade the engine for more power later, the 6.0 is worth it because it has the 4" bore. You can get 500 streetable HP with ls3 heads and a cam.

I was thinking if we were to try to get the 5.3 we could try to get him down a little more he was originally asking 550 and talking with him he said he would do 500 so he might move a little more. I know that the 6.0 has a lot of potential for making power with the ls3/l92 but seems like the 5.3 for the money is decent deal.
What do you guys think of the price for the 5.3?

I don't like to spend $$, so I looked at car-part.com for anything LS from GM trucks, SUVs, and cars. I finally decided on an LQ9 because I did not want to regret a smaller displacement later. Yes, I spent more, but I felt I got a decent deal.
You might like the torque of the 6.0.

As the other guys said, screw the 5.3 unless it is a killer deal
for a few hundred $$$ more you can make more power........
Its going to cost you more to get more power out of that 5.3 vs a 6.0, plus the 6.0 has more head options......
a 6.0 min......

For that price and mileage the 5.3 would be tempting. I sold my bare long-block 5.3l for 1000 shipped. It had 56k on the dot. I sold it since all the performance parts i bought through the classifieds were a little overkill and i would have had a very mix matched setup resulting in low power output. with the right parts a 5.3 can make some good power NA. My tuner recommended new parts or bigger motor. Since the 5.3 was for a turbo build and the turbo got dropped i had an excuse for the 6.0, then i found a good deal on stroker parts....story never ends, gl whatever you decide. check out the classifieds here tho, i recently saw a 383 forged stroker and afr225's sell for 3k. Def worth it for whomever jumped on that.

That is crazy good deal. I actually just found a local 6.0 it has 13k on it comes complete with everything minus gas pedal for dbw out of 2006 h2 with the 4l60e guy was asking $1500.
So now seems like two decent deals the lq4 for around $1500 and the 5.3 for $500

Thats a good deal on the Lq4 providing you can verify the mileage, i have a 29k mile Lq9 that i turned down $1500 for. $400 or less i think would be a good deal for the 5.3. Several members here have scored killer deals on both and im sure will have different opinions, but most will agree that patience and cash on hand are key. GLWShopping

LS in a Jeep is a great swap as they are smaller than a SBC and way more potential. I just finished putting a 5.3, which I bored to 5.7, in my 71 Jeepster with a TH400. FYI, the accessory drive from a truck is rough to fit in a Jeep frame due to steering shaft clearance issues. I ended up using an accessory drive kit from speedway motors in NE. Also had to go with a PS pump from a chevy cavalier...2003 I think. I used Novak motor mounts and Sanderson headers. Hope your swap goes well.
