1979 impala lq4 l76 l92 eps cam swap
First I would like to say thanks to all who post on this board. I just recently started researching and purchasing parts to do this swap. Any help info comments corrections are greatly appreciated.
purchased/in route
lq4 engine and trans from local salvage yard $1600
l76 car intake $210 shipped
ls3 intake with cover, bolts gaskets, injectors, fuel rails $389
l92 heads new $450 shipped needs heli-coils one on each head(west coast cylindar heads quoted me good price on repair)
full length headers
transdapt engine mounts
katech rod bolts
new water pump
oil pan
needed :
new ported oil pump
EFI fuel tank -from 96 caprice/impala for price
fuel pump --Warbro 255
corvette fuel filter--stock corvette what year? (99 and up ?)
transmission crossmember
torque converter- 2800 according to eps cam
harness modified
computer flashed
radiator with built in oil cooler 2 electric fans
I plan on taking a couple days off from work once i have everything needed for the swap. I'd like to get the swap done quickly, before Jan 1. If you have recommendation please post them up, I'm reading as much as possible and don't plan on re-inventing the wheel or doing any fabrication. I'd like to get specific part numbers with vehicle info as well and will take pics as i go along. I am not a mechanic but pretty good with following instructions. A couple years ago I built a dune buggy with info from a forum.
Here is the lq9 engine I purchased:
It was from a 2006 intimdator with about 70k miles. engine & trans harness pedal assembly pcm tac everything needed for swap plus two flowmasters and any little part needed $2600. I paid 50% and a week later this was delivered:
an lq4 from I don't know where no idea how many miles or what kind of trans it is (4l80e by the number of bolts on the oil pan?) The only saving grace was that i paid 1k of the balance with a check. The salvage yard pulled a fast one so i did as well. they called and tried to convince me that the engine I had was the same one. Long story short I have lq4 & 4l80e trans for $1600. Did I get the short end of the stick? Can anyone help me id the trans? Same body style as "Christine"

It should be a 4L80 because I dont think they ever put a 4L60E behind a 6.0. IMHO you did pretty good price wise. But unfortunately now you have no idea how many miles it has or if its good or not. Good luck on your swap. Eric L

I'm going to do a compression test this weekend and then do tear down if its good. The salvage yard says they will give me my money back, they called late yesterday after i posted. So I guess the price is good if they would rather refund my money. i might be in need of an engine.

Heads are here, along with new intake set i purchased in order to get the fuel rail and injectors. I hope West coast cylinder heads is open tomorrow.
Just put the new ls3 intake on ebay. Willing to trade sell if anybody wants its let me know.
I pulled this rear end from local yard some time back and just recetnly opened it up. Does the paint on there mean that it was recetnly serviced? its a Borg Warner 9bolt. What do you think sell it or use it?
I ordered transdapt adapter kit, somewhere on ls1tech.com someone said they are the same, they should be here next week some time. Thinking hard about modifying the harness myself shouldn't be that hard but cant find a complete step by step anywhere so might just buy one.

Dont know what your plans are for your tranny crossmember, but when you get your tank from the 94-96 Impala/Caprice you may want to get the crossmember also. Though its said they share the same frame, (and i believe they do) i had to redrill the pass side and the mount pad to bolt mine in with a 700r4 behind my 468. Very minimal work for a dual exhaust xmember, its heavy but...... Oh and mine is an aerocoupe as well and will be getting some form of generation 3 power soon. GL with the swap. Thats definitely an 80e in the pic.

Oops, sorry about the error. I forgot that they put the 6.0 in the halftons. Thank you for the correction. It would be interesting to find out what year and configuration the motor he has is? Eric L

So tried to do compression test and had issue jumping the starter. Could not get it to consistantly crank the engine. Some times it would spin the engine and others it wouldn't. I was able to get one reading of 180 and gave up. The plugs look good. also here is a pic of the yellow tag
Do i need to upgrad to double timing chain setup?

Hooker 2468-1HKR Super Comp. Ceramic Header $400
katech rod bolts $220
transdapt kit $68
I'll call and talk to EPS cams tomorrow and see what he suggest about the timing chain. I wanted to replace the water and oil pumps also, but will hold off until I pull engine to send car to paint.

The heads arrived but didn't come with rockers and the cam kit doesn't come with the either...
Anyone have set they want to sell? I don't have enough post to access the classifieds

purchased 2 intakes cause of not paying attention. The first one was not complete like the 2nd one was. It was cheaper to buy a complete intake than try to purchase the parts that were missing. Time to get back into my project. Currently my goal is to get the engine and tranny installed, mod the wireing harness and get it running. Then i'll pull the engine to send the car painted and upgrade the cam at that time.

@ Brandon Thanks and same to you.
Today I ordered the headgaskets for the l92 heads and a 2007 truck water pump(supposed to work with car intake. Also order tail lights that don't have cracks, mine are bad. I'm going to tear down my engine, so i can hit it with a fresh coat of paint.

Cleared the 2007 truck water pump for the 90mm TB and also cleared the truck alternator/ps bracket. I have to find the thread that had the spacer and long bolt to relocate the pully. I found this that aid the 98 ford windstar t-stat housing would work and it does after elongating one of the bolt holes
