Default Vss, autometer elect. speedo, 700r4?

I've looked and could not find any recent info but how do get my Autometer electric speedo to work correctly with my vss 4k wire(pin 50 red connector) on my truck harness? I also have the autometer 5291 hall effect sender. Do I just splice into the wire coming from the 5291 going into the SIG on the speedo? I have read about a dakota digital part but I'm not sure how that works. Please get me in the right direction guys!

Thanks, Dee

Well, downset71 asked what kind of speedo, aftermarket or factory. So what was fixed was the fact that I left the autometer electric speedo info out in my first post. So that was fixed!

You have to take the signal from the VSS from the transmission, not out of the PCM.

I am running a 700 behind my LS1. Also using an Autometer speedo. The solution is the dakota converter box. The speedo doesnt care what gears or tire size u use. U just drive a proved actual 2 miles after hitting the button on the speedo. Then after u stop u hit the button again. Simple. It calibrates itself. The dakota box is needed because depending on the reluctor/ vss sensor u are using in the tailshaft, it will multiply or divide the pulses in different ratios ( 2x,8x, 16x or 1/2,1/4, etc). Your setup might be sending too many or too little pulses for the speedo

Ok I see what your saying. Could I use a factory speed sensor from a 90's vette or camaro with a 700r4 I think that sensor puts out a 4k pulse. It would be vss to ecm and then out to the sig of the autometer speedo should work but please correct me if I'm wrong?

What is your speedo doing now? Is your car running yet?

If you have a recent Autometer speedo, then you should be able to use the speed signal out of the PCM (the 4k ppm one), with no other boxes or anything. and then when you do your 2 mile drive to set it, the odometer will start racking up numbers, these are the pulses fronm the VSS, stop when you get to 4000, if your tune is correct with your tire size and axle ratio, it will be at the 2 mile mark. My Autometer speedo is hooked up this way and works perfect.

Nova 71- if its a 4000 pulse per mile, it would read 8000 after the 2 mile run. . Just so u know uneek, the speedo will actually show on the LCD exactly how many pulses it reads like a mini counter reading.

If your critical like me u want everything to work perfect before its even working! Lol. But honestly, get it running first then nit pick the accuracy of speedo. Might be an easy fix after you know what your dealing with.
