Default gearbox options ls1

Hi all i am new here and am from Australia.

I own a 1968 pontiac parisenne that i purchased from my boss(more like rescued, hes a hoarder) and i want to do something different in it. i have been searching and decided that i want to put a ls1 in it, in Australia you pay like $5000 from a wrecking yard for a conversion kit (everything from a vehicle) and i have been offered a ls1 loom and computer from a wrecked car thats done 56000km for a crazy $1000.

it was a 6speed car so it will have a manual computer, i want to try to convert an auto box to keep it column shift. my problem is that i am looking at about a further $2000 - $3000 to get a 4l style box for this motor. so i was wondering what my options are for an auto like a th350, th400 or th700 and what i have to do to set them up behind this motor, the computer will be reprogrammed to have a mafless tune and remove the gearbox stuff.

the car was originally a powerglide and i want to set it up for cruising. i was sent here by some guys over at an aussie site called usmuscle.

all the help i can get would be great, would also love to find someone in the states with a 68 pontiac gto and others as theres some us gear i want to add to mine to spice it up.

Welcome to the board mate ! Do you have any pics of the car. Does it have hide away head lamps or fender skirts. The 2+2 model was real cool car.Is it right hand drive ?

its an aussie built rhd. its just got normal headlights. heres a few pics in the bottom. i am looking in to adding disc brakes to the front, a/c and a few other mods other than the ls1.

i dont know what its called in america but theres a pontiac basically the same but it has different tail lights and i want those tail lights for mine.

Here in the states most guys don't restore sedans, they are looked over in favor of coupes .I love the old Bonnie's, Catalinas and Grand Prix. Check this site http://www.classicpontiacs.com/sixti...968/index.html and this http://www.phs-online.com/

Just a quick note, be sure to get a Chevrolet TH340/400 instead of the BOP pattern. It will make the rest of the swap so much easier. And welcome aboard, good to see another Pontiac project.
