Default 5.3 in a '97 z28?

Instead of swapping the LT1 from my Formula into the z, I seriously think I wanna go with a 5.3L. From what I hear, they make just as much power/torque as the LT1s, some of them make more, They're easier to acquire, they're cheaper, they respond to performance mods better, are just as reliable, if not more, and don't have to worry about that opti! However, this will be my first swap so it'll be a nice little project for me and a few buddies. What all modifications will be needed to do this swap? Also, the z is a 6 speed; not sure if it'll have any issues bolting up to the motor.

You shouldn't have any issues with your t56 bolting up, but as far as the lt to LS swap if I remember correctly you may have to replace your k member but for the money the LS you will love gets just as good gas mileage responds to mods very well loves boost and they take a beating stock or not I think you would be impressed but gonna be a tight squeeze I think lt1 has little smaller engine bay I may be wrong

Well that's a start. I'm looking for a detailed list of everything required for it if possible.

You will need to read this first, https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...on-sticky.html
And as far as the transmission goes it will bolt up no problem, but a lt1 t56 wont work with a 5.3 or ls1 etc, for it to work with the 5.3 you will need to do this
http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...on_conversion/
Also you will need your wiring redone so that your gauges will work and heres how to do it, https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...o-lt1-car.html
If you cant figure it out yon can send the harness in or buy one from one of the sponsors here, one of the members here that wrote the sticky, the merv is very knowledgeable and helped me out with my swap a lot.

Oh and Spaz3 if you think lt1 cars have a smaller engine bay, I think you may think that because of crowded lt1 engine bays, but I also seen crowded ls1 engine bays it just depends on the setup and time yon spend making it look better, heres a quik pic of mine

The good info has all been posted..

T56 has to be converted over and it has to be wired up correctly. It's not too bad when you get in there and look at it all.

Turbo setup looks good there..

it'll be a lot easier & cheaper for you to do the swap than it was for me.

And trust me, it was worth every penny & every drop of sweat & blood, and there was a lot of blood! lol
