5.3 or 6.0
Hi Guys
I own a 71 Chevelle, i want to put a third generation engine in my car this winter. For now i dont want a lot of HP , just cruise with my car
But i'm planning in the futur to add Nitrous or Blower
I found 2 different complete engine from a scrap yard at the same price
one is a 5.3 2005 from a 4x4 pick-up truck and the other was 6.0 2003 from a 4x4 pick-up truck also.
I'm confused now, which one in your opinions was the best choice and why ???

For the same price go 6.0!! (it rymes too) The milage difference will be negligable, the power difference won't and it will support more HP when you decide to go nuts. Have fun with that thing

Both an be made to do the same thing. Bigger engines have more rotating mass.
Ive always been a fan of de-stroked big bore engines.
That 5.3 has all the potential in the world to run side by side with a 6.0L
It all depends on if you know how to apply it. If you dont just build a big cube engine.

6.0 by far. later on you can run L92 heads on it. 5.3s limit your head choices. plus there is a noticable diffrence in displacement. 327 < 364
btw they have the exact same stroke and near identical rotating mass.

You can run the same heads on a 6L as a 5.3
But the 6L heads have the same exhaust D-ports as the LS6 heads.
they make 2 different 6.0Ls though, one is a lower compression they are the LQ4 and LQ9, not sure which is which. But in a N/A application the 6.0 would be better, you can put 5.7 heads on it and it would raise the comp up. But boosted on a budget the 5.3 w/ 6L heads is 8.6:1 compression and perfect.
But the 6L heads have the same exhaust D-ports as the LS6 heads.

you CANNOT run L92 heads on 5.3s, they needs a 4.00 inch bore. as for LS1/6 5.3 and 6.0 heads they all interchange. LQ4 is the 2500HD motor. LQ9 is the silverado SS and esclade motor. it is high compression
