Default 5.3 lsx pan on G-body????

Does anybody know if it will be able to fit without modding the pan. I ask this because the sump appears to not be as wide or as long as the f-body oil pan. Looking into buying one...what do you guys think?

Most will say the truck pans sit to low to the ground, the pan will hit the ground before the crossmember if you bottom out. A CTS-V pan may work for you.

I put one in my G body front clip that is now under my 51 GM pickup. Yes it is lower than the cross member, but still has plenty of room (just my opinion), but I don't plan on doing any 4 wheeling. by the way, my ride is on air & the front bumper will drop to 1.5" from the ground when deflated, & pan still don't touch the ground

That's what i thought...about how many inches does it sit below the cross member? don't plan on off roading either lol...just some serious street racing and a little cruising from time to time. I don't see an elcamino doing any serious wheel stands no matter how much power i put in it anyway, so the pan bottoming out won't be a problem. If i am satisfied with how it fits...i've just saved about $100 for the f-body oil pan and another $225 to get it modified! This truck pan only cost me 50 bucks shipped!

man i just sent these pics to somebody. Ill post em up tonight. Anyway, take your pan to a local welding shop an tell them to take 2" off the bottom and weld it back up. Its very easy to do, no pie cuts or anything are required. Any decent aluminum welder will be able to fill the gaps easily.

It will hang too low, mine was 3" below my crossmember. i Cut it, about 2", now its the same height as the standard pickup oil filter. Think i cut and welded it back up in like 25-30min if i recall, otherwise the fit is very nice.

my 5.3L unmodified truck pan is 2.5" below the "G" body cross member. The front end has stock height spindles with 235/45/18 tires. With the suspension fully colapsed on the factory bump stops, the pan is .75" off the ground.
(custom motor mounts sitting on factory isolators)

I don't completely understand what you were saying...i got that you cut the pan 2"...but did you modify/shorten the pickup tube/screen in 25 to 30 mins? or were you saying that after modifying the oil pan in 25 to 30 mins it can fit the standard f-body pick-up or truck pickup after you modified that also??

That's what i thought. well...i'm going to go the truck pan route. I feel it comes out a lot cheaper than using the F-body pan. Like i said earlier, i bought my pan for 50bucks shipped and most people selling F-body pans tend to be in the 100-150 dollar range for pan alone. I bought all the supporting things i needed for my pan (dipstick/dipstick tube, pick-up, and screen) brand new for 50 more bucks. It will not cost me 225 bucks or any thing near it(like the F-body pan, to get modded) to get this pan chopped 2" and also mod the pickup IMO. I think i'll come out spending maybe $125 to $135 for the whole oil pan set up. Thanks again guys...you have been very helpful!
