Default LS1 truck conversion mpg?

My brother has a 96 extended cab 2wd silverado.

The miles on the tired 305 are adding up, but the interior and body is solid and in very good shape.

I have done a search, not many responses in the way of MPG.

Anyone done a similar swap, what kinda mpg are you averaging? (he runs primarily highway)

whats your rear axle ratio?

auto or did you get brave and go with the six speed?

If anyone went with the 6.0 or 5.3 for that matter, Id appreciate the info on that swap as well.

Thanks

I can't say for a conversion, but I have an 04 Silverado SS with the 6.0, 4L65E, 4.10 gears and AWD and I get 15-17 MPG. The 96 is 2WD and may weigh a little less, so slightly better MPG.

If he had 3.73 and 5.3 should be 18 mpg avg easy. If he had 3.42 and a 4.8 and 4l60 I say at least 20mpg.

It will be just like any of the newer trucks same MPG as those since they all weigh about the same and have the same aerodynamics.

Thats kinda what I figured, just wasnt sure if there was a catch somewhere or something I was overlooking.

Im thinking if he wants an LS1 or LS2, then he might be better off with a camaro/firebird/gto, he need the mpg more than the performance but seems theres a happy medium there, without going import.

Anyone know what the s-10's mpg usually average with an LS engine? Im searching the forums but you sure have to dig to get info and Im not quite used to the search results format. Hes an s-10 nut so that might be an option.

Just looking at options, like to keep the utility of a truck, the mpg of a car. Best option might be to keep the truck and get a 4 banger of some sort...who knows.

I have an '01 Silverado extended cab, 5.3, 4l60e, 3.73. Had it since new, ow 72k miles. 15-16 mpg around town and 19-20 at 65-70 on the highway with cruise control on. It has plenty of power, I used it to pull a 20 foot bass boat quite a bit and it would get 15-16 doing that if I stayed at 60 or under.

Thats not going to happen unless its a diesel and running homebrew biodiesel in it. Its a truck not a car.

I read up on a few s-10 conversions, seems 25+ mpg isnt unreasonable. Id say that fits both requirements, wouldnt you?

I was talking fullsize truck

Not trying to make you mad, but your kinda of all over the place, thinking about what you/he wants anyway MPG/performance.
Fullsize truck/ camaro/firebird/gto/S10?

Whatever he wants it will be better with a any LSX swapped in anyway and he will be happy!

I've got a 5.3/NV3500 in my '79 Cherokee. 3.54 gears on 35" AT tires. I get 16.5 mpg running on the highway 75-80 mph. Best tank was 18mpg, running 60-65mph. My aero is about as bad as it can get, and the gearing is all wrong for the tires I am running. The 5 speed helps on both counts though.

My 1935 Ford sedan (aerodynamics of a baby Grand piano) gets over 25 highway mpg with my LS-1 (5.7) a 4L60e and 3.25 gears. It will still run a mid 13 quarter mile with the 3.25 gears.
