Default starter motors

i never got one when i bought my engine, now i see why it was rem-the chevy dealer only has rebuilt ones, and you need a core, or your first born
i see some in summit(i prefer orig equip for starters and alt.) i have seen some on ebay, around $89 (could buy 2, 1 for a spare) since the engine is on the stand, good time to ck the tooth contact
what are you guys using-w/o a core, their around $240 from GM
i am using hooker headers, but would imagine starter should fit w/o interference

Or you can check the local salvage yards. I'm pretty sure that the GM trucks use the same exact starter on the 4.8 / 5.3 / 6.0 and they can be had for pretty low $$$.

I bought one for $50 from a yard in Ohio (cost me $58 shipped). I have to say, that's the best looking starter I've ever bought. Rebuilt ones from parts stores don't usually look that nice. The yellow zinc chromate on the case was absolutely perfect, and it works great. Just a thought.

Hey carshop....
Could you get a pic of your starter installed?? I know that they made an even smaller one for the 04 and up. Just want to see where they are compared to the dipstick.

I got one from the same yard that I got my 6.0 for around $50. It looked like crap, but I blasted and painted it. New car starters don't seem to wear out like old ones did.

www.car-part.com will search junkyards for you. I found one at an LKQ in Texas. The girl sounded hot and was very interested in my Camaro. I had to tell her that it wasn't for a Camaro, then she was even more interested.

Question LS Starters

Are the smaller, 2004 & up starters interchangable with pre-2004 starters, for an LS1? Are these smaller starters on every newer LS based motor? Thanks

Some blocks will need to have a casting tab clearanced off of them in order to install this starter. Our starter is configured to use two long mounting bolts vs the convertional one long, one short design.
We carry a full line of aftermarket conversion brackets for ls based engines.
