Default tow hook removal

I have a European model Vette and it has a tow hook in where I want to put ZO6 fog light screens.

Has anyone removed one of these?

I'm just gonna cut the sucker off with a hacksaw or dremel.

You can see it in this pic in the lefthand fog light opening.
I have one on the rear also which hides my chrome exhaust plate!

Man! I'm trying to put one in on my vette! I wish I could just have yours! I wonder how it's attached?

I think it's welded on!

I open the hood and put my hand through from under the hood then put my other hand through the hole in the fog light opening. I couldn't feel any bolts and it looks like I need to jack the car up and remove the panel under the car to see properly how it attached!

I could cut a hole in my new ZO6 fog light grill when it arrives but I think it will look crap!

The grill wont cover that hook up? It doesnt look like the hook sticks out that far. Whats wrong with removing the bumper and grinding it off? If you do remove the bumper dont forget those pesky bolts behind the lights (after you flip them up)

Thanks for the replies guys. It is welded on I jacked the car up and had a look.

I posted on here because CF was down at the time.

Is it easy to take the front bumper off?

I would wait until the screens arrive. They will be close to covering the hook. If not I would take a dremel and remove the necessary amount from the front of the hook, then install the screens. Too much hassle removing the front bumper just for a tow hook.

Yes that is good advice, you see my Euro sidelights in the outside corners of the fog light apeture. I have a cardomain web site of a guy who imported a ZO6 to the UK and fitted them to his car and the ZO6 fog light screens hid them so it will be close and to wether the tow hook will be covered. I think they will just protrude about 1/2" at the most.

I have thought of cutting a small hole in the fog light grill and letting in poke through there. I just think it will look crap and the reason I want the fog light grill it to tidy up the look of the front of the car.

I have front brake duct screens to fit that arrived today.

How do you guys get your Vettes towed?

big J hooks on the front lower a-arms, or when I trailer it, I put frame hooks into the frame.

I went for the hacksaw blade! Its was like trying to breakout of jail it took about a hour each side of the hook to saw through with just a hacksaw blade.

So I then fitted the ZO6 fog light screens and the brake duct grills.
I like the new look it's look much better now I don't have that hidiuos hook sticking out the front. It was so crude welded on there. Why didn't the just do a screw in one which I can store in the trunk!

I did the rear facia with grills also.

Thanks, another bonus is it hides the little side lights the Euro model has. You can still see them throught the mesh same as you can the fog lights

I took a few pics with the European sidelights on and then the fog lights yesterday and I painted my brake calipers and waited 24 hours for the paint to dry.

The paint was dry enough on my brake calipers to remove the red paint from the Corvette lettering with a stanley knife blade.

They look deeper red in real life the pics make em look kinda orange!
I am pleased with the results, I wish the rear ones had the Corvette lettering on also cause they don't look as good as the fronts.

It looks really good man! I like the lights, very sharp. Calipers look great too.

Thanks, I'm gradually getting there. I will have to do some pics in a better location as the calipers standout from quite a distance now!

I took some pics and used the flash to fill in.

I fitted ZO6 rear brake duct screens, I think they looks great!

I know they are not real and only stick on, there is no way I'm cutting holes in the side of my Vette to fit real ones. I'm in the UK and most people have never even herd of a ZO6 let along seen one so it makes no difference.
