I didn't cut mine and the tires are rubbing thru the bumper cover. I did have to beat the metal behind the bumper cover to stop it from eating a groove in the tire. If you use some adj lca's as suggested above you can get by with minor trimming.

i already have the LCAs...so i guessin it hits when the tire expands right?

so yours are only hitting the bummper cover not on the front?

there is a sharp piece of the front cover that you should trim or the tire can hit it same with the rear .....its not so much the bumper its the sharp metal under it ....make sure the tire is in the center of the wheel well

Yeap, it's when the tire expands. With non-adj control arms there was about 1/4" clearance in the back and plenty on the front. Center the tire as mentioned by ndfrsd6 then trim or hammer the body for clearance. Both places that need to be clearanced are inside the wheel well and not visible from the outside of the car. It's not as bad as it sounds and pretty easy to do.

You may be able to get away without triming the bumper cover. It really depends on the wheel offset and how the tire sits in there. With adjustable LCA's you can move the rear forward or backward and may be able to find a spot that works. You won't need as much clearance on the front. Also, a trans am will be a little different than a camaro with fitting the tires.

If you run a stiff tire it will grow less so you can get away with less clearance.

I am guessing these grow more than hoosier qtp's? I run 28" with no trimming of the bumper, and they do not rub

I've ran 28x10.5 Stiffs on a few customer's cars and they didn't rub. Like I said in the last post, a trans am is not the same as a camaro when you start trying to fit tires.

I ran the 325-50-15 MT Et Street and didnt have to trim. I switched to the 30/9.00/15 Hoosier Radials and had to trim a little off the bumper.

I dont have any close up side pics where you can look at clearances. I have a few of me at the track with a late pic of the launch with the tire wrinkled, but thats about it. They definitely arent stiff though. Adj lca's where a must though, they would rub the rear without them for sure.

The 15x9 will have better clearance than the 15x8.5 that i have, but not much. With the ET drags you will need 1 inch clearance, minimum, for no tire rub.I had 3/4 of an inch and mine rubbed bad on the front.Your best bet is to move the rear back with the adj control arms, then clearance the rear bumper cover. But remember like others have said, there is a piece of metal inside the rear bumper cover that needs to be trimed back,or your gonna puncture a tire.

Man with 275/50-15s it looks like I have a ton of space (stock height w BMR boxed non adjustable LCAs) I wonder if Ill need to trim for 10.5x28 stiff walls? Think they will really suck up all that room over a 26" tire?

i would like to see them on the convo rims...if you got the new prototype wheels like i did around $275 with the correct backspacing to fit nicely, minor caliper grinding, they are actually 9.25"

yes i did get the new wheels...i got them directly from centerline. they had to make them for me when i ordered them. well they matched summits price for them they gave them to me for 194 each and gave me free lug nuts. yes these are the ones that you have to grind a little but i dont mind. if they are 9.25 then thats pretty cool i will have to check that out.

the 28-10.5s is what i run on my 15-9 convo pros. i centered the rear and just hammered the front some and zip tied the rear plastic back and have good clearance.
