Default Who has run a stock stall on a cammed car?

This is not a "should I" thread, this is a "did you" thread...

Fact of the matter is I'm saving for a tranny rebuild/ stall. The car is already cammed so I know all about driveability issues and all that BS so I'm not looking for preaching...

I need to know what you were trapping and if it got better with a stall.

Right now I'm trapping 85mph pretty consistant in the 1/8th mile at Paris TX with 80-90* temps and high humidity.

I still think this is low for my mods but I can't find anything wrong with my car.

i know someone that did...car was almost identicle...with bolt ons it went at 8.3 at 87 or so...with a cam and stock converter it went a 9.3 at 86 or so..then a yank ss3600 it went a 7.5 at 94...your trap problem is your converter...he has a stock tranny btw...they will last just keep it cool..and when it start flaring get it built

thanks for the information

my best has been 8.4@87mph, my usual is 8.5@85mph...engine was cammed before I installed it because it had a bad lobe

I am looking at a Yank in the 2800-3600 range just haven't decided, a friend has a 2800 and is only .1 behind another car with the same cam with a 3400 so I don't know if it's really worth it since mpg would likely be a hair worse

My transmission supposedly had 45-50k on it when I bought it and now has at least 70k. It's a real pain to get in and out due to my exhaust and how tight it fits the tranny tunnel so I'm going to freshen it up while it's out. I don't trust a 4l60e more than 100k even behind a v6.

I will definitely order a beast sun shell from the looks of things, I'm going to upgrade a lot of things while I'm inside.

ya might as well go ***** out... also if you wanted to make it a 4l65e just change to the 5 pinion planatary carrier vs the 4 on the 4l60e.
thats what makes it a 4l65e.

that is on the list as well, its not much more expensive than stock replacement from where my dad orders parts

my dad is a mechanic and one of his specialties is chevy transmissions

I want it built to the point where hopefully I don't have to worry about it for a long time even with some track use and tons of street abuse

ya thats the way to go, it will only cost my parts to rebuild my trany as i asume for you as well. which makes a 1800 dollar rebuild into like 300 or so..

so anyways you thinking about going any higher then a 2800-3600 stall?
ive seen some with 4000 stalls and are wicked off the line!
its just the pocket book thats hurting!

I've ridden in a car with a 4k stall, while its fun for acceleration, I think it's more than I could tolerate for daily driving.

If I got a killer deal I might go Yank 3600, otherwise it will be 2800 or 3200.

Are you seriously going to the dragstrip in Paris? Good lord I haven't been there in forever. Are the big *** pot holes in the track still there? . You should come up to Prescott Ar.

I went from having a cammed (231/237 .598/.595 112LSA) stock converter to a 3600 and it was a world of difference at the track.

new owners at the track, I've not noticed any holes in either lane, nor has my uncle in his 5 second cars (5.20s in his roadster and 5.80s in his '55 chevy)

paris is only 45 minutes from my house and if I break something there are places close I can tow my car

when we don't go there we go to Redline near Greenville, TX which is a very nice track that's not crowded

what differences did u have in your times?

They sure have had a couple new owners. I remember back in 2000 they had some terrible holes at the 1/8th. Redline is a very nice track, a little short for my taster but nice. I usually run the dragster there on Fridays.

I went from 12.2x's to 11.7x's. Sometimes I could squeeze an 11.6x
