Default So I need a drag wheel that is street friendly...

Normally I drive around on my Fikse wheels and swap to my Bogarts when it's track time but I am getting lazier in my old age and am looking for a drag wheel that is more "street friendly" than the bogarts since I would be running them full time. I will eventually be going with a lightweight strange brake setup front and rear but would prefer to find a wheel that would fit over the stock brakes in the mean time. If there just isn't the selection of street friendly drag wheels that would fit over the stock brakes then I will open it up to what would just fit over strange lightweight brakes. Any suggestions on what would fit the bill? I have searched all over in this section and nothing really came up as a direct answer. Oh yea, I guess the only other requirement is not breaking the bank at $500 a wheel.

Billet Specialties's Street Lites or Convo Pro's will both fit without grinding...I have Convo's and I'm very happy with them...

So the Billet Specialties Street Lites and Convo Pros are built strong enough for street duty? I just want to make sure that it's a beefy wheel and am willing to sacrifice a little bit of weight gain over my Bogarts for safety.

Oh yea, they need to be 15" wheels with 10" wide in the rear.

Nevermind, just answered my own question on the 10" wide in the rear. The billet specialties are looking pretty damn good right about now. What is the correct street light backspacing for the front that clears factory brakes?

I would just get the brakes 1st, if know your going to get them anyway. Then you can get the wheel you want.

No they don't. The fronts require grinding, their 15x10 F-Body specific wheel will clear without grinding, but they take on an extra price per wheel for the F-body specific wheels.

I use Weld Racings new R/T series wheels. Built to clear OEM LS1 brakes, and are built with the street in mind.

There are 12 new designs out that come in both a polished or black finish.

I use the Weldstar R/Ts in polished. 15x10 7.50" backspace and 15x4 with 1.50" backspace

nic the wheels he posted above on that camaro are the same ones jared (secret squirl) runs. Billet specialites last turbo dave runs those on his car and its out on the street a lot. I've been debating going with a matching set and going with those billet specialites, but still not sure if i want to do that or not

I do like those Weld Racing R/Ts as well and if they clear the OEM brakes than that is probably going to be my choice. I will eventually do the brakes but it's not super high on my priority list right now. I really like that classic 5 spoke design of the weldstar, hell it's the same style I have in both my Bogart and Fikse wheels.

if you do the r/t's id suggest adjustable upper and lower arms in the front to pull them in little bit.

I did weigh my R/T's when I first got them, but I can't remember the exact numbers. I know they were right on par with my old Prostars.

The 1.5" backspace on the front isn't as ideal as it could be, but it looks good to me. The edge of the tire sits just under the lip of the fender. I'll try to get a side shot next time I'm out in the barn.

Edit. Here's a picture of how they sit with 1.50" backspace

Convo's get my vote if you want a streetable drag wheel. Those have been around for years and I rarely hear of anyone bending one.

The ones above look nice... but I have no first hand exp with how strong or weak they are.

They are a lot stronger feeling than my convo pros were. You should see the centers on these things too. It's amazing they're as light as they are, for how thick the wheels are.

If they're light... something's up. Either the material is porous, or they're thin somewhere... alum. is alum, to be strong there has to be some mass somewhere.

Agreed.

And to further explain my agreement. Comp Cams Pro Magnum Rockers champion that theroy that they take meterial from un needed areas since the steel is stronger then aluminum and the increase weight is at the body and not near the tip. They can thin out areas due to stronger metals but since like saild Aluminum vs Aluminum, if it is thicker in a given area, but lighter overall, then there is a reason.

+1 on convo's. They are a little stronger than your standard pro star or draglite.

The OP is asking for a 15x10 wheel. Centerline Convo Pro's do not come in a correct backspace for 1993-2002 F body.
