Default 11.80s? Is this guy as retarded as I think?

This local guy happened to make a post in referance to my car, when I had mentioned I expected my car with it's current setup to run somewhere in the low 11s.

His direct quote was:

Did you get the bottle for your ride??
Stock internal guys are into the 10s. . Just because you took a new Mustang and put a gear and converter and ton of other bullshit into it and still couldn't get out of the 13s, doesn't mean I'm going to do the same. Hell, the car was damn near in the 12s stock. I've added a much better cam to take advantage of the flow of the stock heads, a Victor JR intake, 4500 stye TB, longtubes, ORY, lighter less power robbing three speed trans with a 5000 stall, better suspension, better gearing, and probably took 500lbs out of the car, not to mention many other things. You're saying with that stuff I'm only going to go into the 12s????????????? Hell guys with just gears and converter go into the low 12s, high 11s.
After my response, he then made a bet with me.

As for your whip I got a 100 spot says that car in its current form working correctly and tuned cnat go better then 11.8 let alone low 11. Please your not going to bull **** me on some half *** times your dreaming off

This is a complete break down of my car. If this setup is only capible of 11.80s, will someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? From what I've learned along the way, I don't see any reason why I can't expect low 11s out of this setup. Thanks!!

This thread doesn't really belong in the drag racing forum... but to the OP, you should have very little trouble going past the 11.5 mark, providing the car leaves good. I would say... that if you leave off a transbrake @ wot up on the converter and the car hooks and moves out you should see a bottom 11 at 120 mph, maybe more depending on what the car actually weigh's. I'm hoping you have a rear and adjustable shocks on the car too by the time you run it, because it's going to need it.

Get that damn tranny fixed and shut them up.

I meant to put it in the drag racing results thread, but oh well. It has your old converter in it, which seemed to work well for the combo, as far as I could tell playing around on the street. We'll find out. Tracks are closed for months here, but it will be ready to take his hundo on opening day. Then I'm going to take his ol lady out to dinner.

No. My bro and I are swapping his backbraced 9" in it, with 35 spline strange axles, 4.56 pro gear, and spool into it, to use for the spring until I get a 9" for my car later next year.

He has a turbo 03 Cobra that runs very well. It went 10.00s his first time at the track. I'm not saying he is doing anything wrong. I'm just questioning his knowledge on LS1 based stuff, because he seems to thing it's 100% unreasonable for a car with my setup to go 11.80s, let alone low into the 11s.

I thought it said to race it just as it is, adding the 9" with different gears etc. seems like it is changing the setup?????

If you can hook and the car stays together to get a clean pass, you should be able to run low 11s easily IMO.

Your friend is obviously LS1 ignorant.

I wouldn't call a rear swap changing the setup, leave the 4.10 gear in the ratio won't change, that's not really gonna make it faster, just be able to do it moce then once and not worry about stuff breaking. Just don't put a rear in the car with a tru-crap diff and you should be fine.

That mod list is one I copied from another thread of mine from a while ago. I got rid of the 4.10s for 4.56s with the 10 bolt months ago. So changing it from a 10 bolt to a 9" wont do much, being that it will have the same gear ratio I was to use with the 10 bolt. If anything the added weight of the 9" will slow it down over the 10 bolt.

You put 4.56's in the car? Yeah it's going to run at the track, that's for sure. Get that 10 bolt out of there though with that ratio, the teeth are really small and probably won't make it past about 2 runs before breaking.

4.56's, the cam you're running, my old converter.. what does the car weigh? If that doesn't go a bottom 11 there's something wrong, I mean really wrong with the car.

It hasn't been weighed, but I'd have to guess around 3100-3200 or so.
