Default Black box

I posted up in the general forum asking what the heck this black box is (and why there's chopped wires coming off of it). Its under the console, beside the e-brake. Someone said its a recorder for speed, air bags, etc.

Question: Can I remove it? Will the computer have a fit if I do? I'm doing some weight reduction on the car right now, and anything I dont NEED is getting tossed.

Thanks in advance

That is your air bag control box. I noticed in another thread you posted, you said your trying to pull weight from your car, well if thats true and you dont care for your air bags, pull it out.

Answered your ques in the general forum haha. Yes, it records crash data, acts as an inertia switch, and controls airbag deployment. Scrapped mine. No probs other than dash lights...well, that really isn't a prob. Warning: airbags will no longer work haha

Aww shucks lol

Ok, its coming out this weekend! Along with my dash so I can pull my airbags. Weird that it has those two sliced wires coming off of it. I really want to know what those were for.

Most of that stuff under the guage cluster area that is yellow plastic, has yellow tape on it, or are large yellow wires (or any combination of the three) is all related to the air bag crap.
