Default Hood pins or Dzus Fasteners?

Straight up vote. I know most of the pros and cons of both just wanna see what everyone's opinion is.

Hood pins...

Pros

1. Easy and cheap Install
2. Easy taking hood on and off
3. Can take hood off and put it on faster (in case of an engine bay fire or something)

Cons

1. Dosent look as clean as dzus fasteners

Dzus Fasteners

Pros

1. They look super clean

Cons

1. Hard install
2. Hard taking hood on and off
3. Takes forever to remove and put hood back on
4. And if u wanna do it right with the rails and everything its an expensive install

That is a good question. If I were to run a fastener and at some point I may I do love Dzus but I would certainly make sure a fire suppression system is installed and works just incase. Cheap insurance for avoiding total loss.

If the car was like my '70 Chevelle, then no issues with Pins. I also like though more evenly distributed pressure on the hood compared to 2 or 4 pins. So its secure. I have again thought about the same. GL on the research.

I was thinking on a pin on hood and havent got as far as you with researching pins and ****. But just looking at the pros and cons I would do hood pins. Looks like the other is just a PITA and $. On paper hood pins look like the way to go but I didnt do my own research so im not gonna vote.

Dzus fasteners do NOT make the hood hard to put on or take off. I have them on my blackbird. I wouldn't use anything else. Plus its easy to tell if there all fastened and if you did miss one your not going to blow the hood off.

Dzus. I can take the hood off in about 10 seconds if I have to, and I leave the tool in the back seat area. Saves a ton of weight from hinges and looks a lot better than hood pins.

another vote for dzus, imho its the cleanest way to install, my hood can be installed and removed in roughly 10 sec or under. as for the expensive price? i dont exactly agree w/ that. if you're somewhat "handy" you can purchase a set of the dzus and weld on tabs and make brackets. i welded mine onto angle stock where i incorporated the factory fender bolts to bolt them on, in the fround i built steel standoffs and thru bolted them onto the front headlight/bumper support area. and for the rear "mirror" pockets i bolted them thru the plastic w/ a backing plate, kinda a pita to get those in but i would say it took about a day to install the hood start to finish and had roughly $50-75 in it total.

It sucks to take your hood off in the wind....it sucks more to have to put it on and chip it or the fenders. Weight saveings are nill by the time you make the brackets and carry the tool to get your hood off. I lightened my hinges and saved 3.5 #'s and I only use 1 shock to hold the hood up. The conveniance of leaving the hood on the car is far better to.

dzus rails

its s huge help ever time taking the hood off, it gets right the **** out of the way! LOL you change plugs standing right buy the PCM.

No more bending over under the hood, and reaching around the hood strut.

You have 10X better light.

My hinged carbon hood weighed 23#. A stock SS hood weighs 44#. I have lighted most of the parts you took off and only need 1 hood shock. Then you added the weight of the rails and the zeuses and put a cowl hood on to pack air under it at the base of the windsheild. It's all in what you want op, pro's and con's to both.

Not sure what pin on hood you weighed but my extended sunoco with rails is probably around 40lbs lighter than the stock hood.

That means your hood weighs 4#. I never weighed a pin on. just my SS hood(44#) and the carbon SS hood(23#) I saved around 30# with the hood and lightening the supporting peices.
By the way studderin, I put holes/cut on alot of those peices you took off. Not just 8 holes.

Yup my sunoco was 14.8, the flat VFN hood they claim is 11.
the race craft rails are like .060 alum and weight 1 maybe 3 pounds with the dzes springs. the pop rivits are alum and weight nothing, removing both hinges, shock, latch is gona be the lightest the driliing any hols. I also removed the brackets for the shocks, and the hood bumpers with a spot weld drill.. I bet is more like 45-50# lighter then stock. The front of my car was almost a inch higher after changing the setup. lol

[QUOTE=HioSSilver;15103405] Then you added the weight of the rails and the zeuses QUOTE]

These aren't that heavy. There less the the 2 stock hood hinges. But your lightening holes work well also.

Street car = Hinged
Race car = lift off

When you are running and maintaining a race car, the added access to everything in addition to the weight savings make the lift off a no brainer.
