Twisted Axle Splines - Ouch.
D'oh!
Last time I went to the track was last December with a few guys from the forum where I set my new best time (video in sig). The last run of the day the rear decided to make some noise but I've only gotten around to checking it out NOW unfortunately (my work schedule has been absolutely horrid plus not having a place to work on the car sucks too). Upon pulling the axles this is what I found.
Those are Moser 31 spline axles, Ford 9", with a full spool. Tires are MT DR 295/15s.
I have not yet pulled the center section to inspect for any more damage but I strongly believe that my measly 455whp should not have been enough to twist the axle splines like that. However, Moser recommends that you have at least 1" of engagement on the axle splines which I have. I am wondering if I should lengthen the axle another 1/2" or so for more engagement being that I do drive the car on the street (which may have contributed to slowly weakening the axle). The other axle was undamaged.
What are your thoughts?

Before looking into more engagement be sure to check that you have room to do so.
Only one was twisted ??? Be sure to check the entire length of the other one
I will also guess it was the right side ?

No way that should have happened with a A4 trans and that kind of power.
The driver side axle is almost always the first one damage will happen to. The rearend counter rotates engine torque and plants it harder than the right side, increasing the load on that side.
Chances are there is no other damage, and the axle would have done the same thing even with more engagement.
I'd say it's time to step up... give me a call and I will see what I can do for you.
