Should I buy bigger rims/slicks or invest in some HAL's
I'm having an inconsistant hook with my 10.5" ET Streets. One run it'll go 1.60 60ft, the next might be a 1.75 in the same lane.
I want to start planning winter mods now which should be quite a bit. S2 H/C, longtubes, the usual....
I'm not sure how much $$ I'll have, but the H/C is priority. Should I buy some 10" ProStars and 11.5" slicks or get some HAL's and 10.5" slicks on my 8" ProStars? I'm not really worried about losing 1-2mph on the bigger tires, I'm more concerned with traction.
I'm going for the points championship next year and feel I've got a damn good chance at it. I'm 3 for 4 with the current points leader this year and have only raced maybe half the races. Out of maybe 10 times, I've gone to the QTR Finals 4 times and lost because of no traction. Last week I lost in the QTR's with a .507 RT because of traction.
Thanks.
Rick

HAL's are on my wish list anyway. Guess I'll upgrade them to my MODS list. <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" />
AND.....I've been wanting to pull the wheels off the ground all year.

Re: Should I buy bigger rims/slicks or invest in some HAL's
I was having a similar problem...
I had Bilstein/Eibach setup all the way around the car...I had the Th400 in, and 10.5" ET streets in the back...I cut a 2.1 60ft off the brake and the best I could ever do off the foot brake was a 1.75 once again on et streets...
Now...
I have HAL's all around w/eibachs in the rear still, that might be too soft.... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />
I am running prostars all around... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
I haven't gotten it to the track w/this new setup yet... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />
Car still isn't running

I am a big believer in the Hal shocks front and back with front Hal drag springs with RT torque arm with a pinion angle of -2 or -3. This is a great combination and will give suspension tunning ability for different track conditions. Cheers and good luck.

I found some good consistancy just by going to KYB AGXs in the rear. I set the right all the way stiff to 8 and the left to 5. Also a tq arm will help consistancy.
I have milder TC than you, but on prepped track, I'll consistantly be in the low 1.7s if I stay in the groove.
Good Luck

BIGBOS, that sucks to hear man. I haven't been to the Midwest forum for awhile.
Hang in there dude. You'll get her worked out.
Kent, you mean RT as in Random Tech? How much of a difference does a torque arm make?

Re: Should I buy bigger rims/slicks or invest in some HAL's
My car when it was a 346ci would cut 1.57-1.75's.
After I played with the suspension and did the front Hal/Qa1 shocks I would never cut worse than a 1.65 and that was always due to poor track conditions.
Now with the 422ci I have gone 1.51 on 26x11.5x15 ET Streets...
With the new 28's I hope to go at least 1.45's.

IF I can stay under a 1.65 I can run within .02 every run. That's what I need.
Hal/Qa1 setup it is. If I need more, I'll try 10" rim/11.5" ET's. I really don't want to have to change my wheels out every weekend.
BTW, Glad to hear you got Proj. Dragula straightened out. Now get her to the track and lets see some 10 sec. timeslips!

Re: Should I buy bigger rims/slicks or invest in some HAL's
With the Hal shocks and Random Technology torque arm I average in the range of 1.608 to 1.65. After everything is dialed on the suspension, I hover in the 1.61 range. With a little more weight off of the front, the car would most likely be in the 1.55 range, but my car is a street car mostly. Anyway I hope it helps.
