If I break into the 12's do I need a cage? My 2002 z28 convert is running 13.30's on street tires . Right after the new year I will be doing a few more Mods tourqe converter , exhaust and getting some drag radials for traction.Obviously you can tell by the simple bolt on mods that this is a street car but I do like taking it to the track sometimes. Will I need a cage when I get into the 12's .Someone said I will be banned from the track. Is this true?

Depends on NHRA or IHRA. I believe it's 11.99 or faster though (I believe my track is IHRA though).

I think the rule is you need at least a rollbar at 13.99 or quicker for a convertible.

from the NHRA rulebook:
Roll bar mandatory in all cars running 11.00 (7.00 1/8) to 11.99 (7.49), in convertibles running 11.00 to 13.99 (8.59 1/8).
5-point minimum, no passenger side bar required.

Just make sure you have and wear a helmet!

Depends on the track nhra or ihra I race at rt66 its nhra and any vert 13.99 or quicker needs a bar.

thanks for the help guys . i guess i have been lucky so far . i went to the track 2 times and got away with the 13.3's .i am guessing with a good converter and some traction i should get to 12.8 . maybe i will get away with it.i sure hope so i want to hit the track occasionally but this is a daily driver and i dont want a cage. any suggestions?
