NHRA at it....
again. A new 2007 phase in rule.
Go 9's and you have to have an engine diaper. [SFI approved] Supposedly covers all cars, including bracket racers.
From NHRA's website:
Oil-retention Device
Beginning Jan. 1, 2007, all Comp competitors will be required to have an oil-retention device meeting either SFI Spec 7.1 or 7.2. For Jan. 1, 2008, the same rule will apply for Super Gas, Super Comp, and any E.T. vehicle running 9.99 or quicker or 135 mph or faster. NHRA is developing an implementation strategy for an oil-retention device meeting the SFI specification for the reminder of the NHRA Lucas categories.
Get out the wallet!!

Well its really not a bad thing, they are a little pricy and I really doubt a lot of people will be checking. I imagine they are doing that mainly for bigger events to keep them on schedule, all it takes is one super gas car to unload 8 qts of oil on the track and thats an hour delay. Do it twice and so on..
Plus from a driver safety aspect its not a bad idea either, driving over your own oil at 150mph isnt fun, I've done it and dont recommend the experience to anyone.
Yes its going to cost but its not 2008 (I'm not running Comp) and I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. I doubt you will see many local tracks looking for that, hell lot of tracks you can run 8s without a cage so I doubt they will be enforcing it anyhow.

well there are a ton of non-sfi approved ones that are under 300. I think they'll get the job done and will catch the oil...how many times have you had an inspector check SFI certs on anything other than belts.

Be on fire at the stripe and you won't bitch anymore. I have one and I push all my friends after what happened to me. I actually said that whole summer I was going to get one and was too cheap & lazy. I also recommend a hans. I know I know $$$ and I probably go faster than most people, but enough of us get hurt or killed.

I remember the uproar when SFI balancers were required, it was unheard of to spend 400.00 on a damper then lol.

I was relayed information from one of my local track personel that the rule was meant for people running in a series. Like a bracket series or an actual competition race. That they won't be a requirement on the "hobbyist" racers
Attn: everybody...
You only need an engine diaper *IF* "all Comp competitors" applys to YOU.
unless you're racing super gas, super comp, pro stock, ect.....you dont have to worry

This bothers me. It's not the intention, it's good for saftey and avoiding big shutdowns but I don't like how it's going down.
Plus you've got the whole idea that all of us in the 9's are running much more durable equipment than those running slower (not all but a decent hunk). Just because the whole idea that to go fast you gotta pay and reliability comes with the parts. Most of the delays I've ever encountered are due to slower cars blowing something up. I understand it wouldn't be right to make them have diapers but it just bothers me how they're going about it.
I must say though I don't see them being very in depth on following through with the rule with the exception of maybe divisional events and national events (even in 2008). I'm not buying a SFI one that's for sure, my non-SFI one will do the job just fine and that's all that I care about.
