Default Cam Lock or Latch Harness?

I'm installing a roll bar into my sometimes street car. I need to buy a new harness and can't make up my mind. I know that the cam lock are supposed to be easier/faster to get out of, but are they worth paying double for? Which one can you put on faster?

If you drag race a lot then you realize that you have to replace or recert. every other year. That's why I went latch. If I have to have new every 2 years then why spend 2-3 times the money.
Now if I were doing other types of events where replacement wasn't required I'd spend the more money on the camlocks.

Cam lock is not as strong as a latch style, FYI.

Cam lock is alot easier in and out like someone said.

You can send your cam lock back and they will put new belts on it and recertify it.

I have had both and will not go back to the latch

Camlock for sure
the latch type is a pain to get all the belts togather at once to latch them with camlock you can connect one at a time and it stays in once you connect it.

That's intresting, I didn't know they did that. I went with a latch set of belts because I figured with the replacment required every 3 years it wasn't worth spending big $ on the camlock ones when they would get chucked after 3 years.... but if I knew that, I'd have gone camlock all the way.

good info, too bad I didn't read this 3 months ago

I called the guys at Impact. They said that they don't do recert anymore, but will replace your out of date cam lock belt for $93.

another thing you can do if you are getting belts for 2 seats is get expired ones off ebay. or you can buy belts for one seat then when they expire move them to the passenger side and get a new one for the driver side.

another idea is keep them for 1-2 years and sell them while they are not expired and get a new set.

another idea is keep them till they expire and sell them on ebay. people will buy them for jeeps and dune buggys and 4x4s. Then buy a new set.

You will be glad you got the camlock if you do and wish you had got the camlock if you didn't

My car had a cam lock when I bought it and I loved it. So much easier to get on/off then my dad bought a latch without telling me and I hate it. The thing with the camlock is it's easy to know when it's locked in or not.

One time with my latch I pushed the little bar down and didn't notice that it pinched part of the strap... I launched and bam my belt came undone.

Not to mention it doesn't hurt your *** nearly as bad when you sit on it ... The latch setup is enormous in comparison.

I sat in a friends car who had one of these padded, ultrashield harnesses. It's the nicest/most comfortable harness I've ever seen. And the price seems right. Most other 5way cam lock harness cost as much as these without any padding!

Where did you come by this info?

PS I've noticed that DJ saftey is near both of us at the 405/2. Any one ever used any of their products?

I can not find it at the moment, but I do recall the camlock had a failure point of 16,000lbs where as the latch style exceeded that. It was a test conducted by SFI a couple of years ago.

No, I have not used DJ Safety stuff. I mainly use Simpson, Impact, RCI, G-Force, Stroud, or Deist.

With safety, get what you feel comfortable with ... after all it is your life.

16,000 lbs!
So basically a 200 lb dude would have to be involved in an 80 G crash for a failure to occur. If you're involved in an 80G crash, I think that the seat belt breaking would be the least of your problems!

I perfer latch type. I've tried both and think each is just as easy as the other to use. As for the people who couldn't figure out the latch style.......the 10% rule may need to be in affect.

well it wasnt so much figuring it out as much as getting it to fit.. just took me a bit longer than my cam style but yes the latch style are not some ancient painful device but the camlock is easier imho.
