Default gears vs. tire size

I got 3.73's now with a 28'' tire. A little big for my car. So i was gonna go down to a 26-27'' tire. BUT if i swaped to 4.10's would that even out?

3.73's + 27'' = 4.10's + 28''

How does that work. I was thinking about swapin to 4.10's and keep the bigger tire for better traction/bite. What you guys think.

Those trie sizes will be close but not even.

The better combo for comparison would be 4.10' and 28" tire and 3.73's and 26" tire. The 3.73's and 27" tires would net a higher (numerically lower) final drive ratio.
An example, lets show you the MPH at 6000 RPM's in a 1:1 ratio gear.
3.73's and 27" tire ~129 MPH
4.10's and 28" tire ~122 MPH
3.73's and 26" tire ~124 MPH
3.73's and 28" tire ~134 MPH

I know because I am running 3.73's and 28" tires myself and they work out to be exactly the same as 3.42's and the stock tires (~26"), I had to calculate it for setting my shiftpoints...

another figure in this is ill be sprayin my car too. You think a 28''/4.10's is too tall for nitrous?

That all depends on your mods and how much nitrous you are planning on spraying, your shift point and a lot of other variables...

You can use the calculator in my sig to help you out when you have more details...

Just follow these instructions

"To use the Optimal Axle ratio calculator, enter the tire size you are running, and your Estimated/Desired RPM through the trap in the Redline (RPM) field, then press Calculate, there will then be a pop-up requesting your Estimated 1/4 mile MPH, enter that and your Optimal Axle Ratio will display in the Axle Ratio field. I say spend the gear and tire money for more power mods! Keep the 28's and 3.73's and "grow" into them with more power. Not sure what you are trapping now, but that chart said you would be good to 134 MPH.

If it's too soft outta the hole, hit it with a bigger shot!

lol, i like your style Al! I was just wondering cause my buddy has 4.10's and wants 3.73's so we could just swap rearends for nothing so i could get um for free. Im not gonna spend money on it like you said, but i could swap for free so i thought about it.

If it was me I would do the swap with my buddy, but that is me. It all depends on your car and mods, but I say 4.10's and 28" tires would be fine...

If its free, go for it. You would be helping each other by testing new gear combos, never know what you may find. Thats the best way to figure out what you need.
