Default Help With Tire Choice For Big and Littles

So Im building a street strip car out of my Z. Im gonna get weight WAY down, and Id like to run a drag radial for now.
The car is an M6 and I plan on running the Summit Star Wheels (knock off Pro Stars), with an 15x8 out back with a 275/50/15 MT ET Street Radial and a 15x4 up front.

Now here is my question. What tire shoudl I run up front. I know it has to be a radial cause you cant mix bias plys and radials but Ive heard that some of the radials are hard on the skinnies and some are only good for around 12 second passes. Will I have to worry as much since my car will be rather light (I plan on gutting it and doing a ton of weight reduction, along the lines of Tabur Unit)?

Initial plans for the car are low 11s with bolt ons and 100-150 shot, maybe a cam too.

you can mix bias ply and radials, what do you think all the drag radial cars are running? ET fronts and the like, which are all bias ply.

I'd just get yourself a set of sportsman fronts and call it a day. I've had teh same set on my front rims for 6 years now, they seem to wear pretty good and didn't take much to balance them.

Listen to this guy. MT sportsmans work great. I've got them on the front of my Camaro with 325/50 drag radials in the back. They drive fine.

I ran radial front on mine with slicks on the back for years without any problems, I would agree with the rest of the crowd, M/T sportsman fronts with the drag radial rears, same thing I plan to run on my next setup.

I have Sportsman 4 plys on the front of the camaro, and 8 plys on the front of the Formy. I did not like driving on ET Fronts, and they wore real fast.

Like I said I've had the same set of 4 ply sportsman fronts on my car for 6 years now.

I am going to go to either an ET front or a DS-2 moroso front tire, they weigh about 10 lbs less per tire, and I'm at the point where the weight loss will help get to where I need to be. Plus I don't drive on the street with the car anymore either... as logn as you are running around on the street I would leave ths sportsman tires on, like John said the et fronts on the street will wear out mad fast.

I drive my car on the street most of the time, and run at the track every once in a while. I have 275-60-15 BFG Drag Radials out back and VW street tires up front. I can't remember the size. They are Cornelli and I think 65r 15's ....i'm not sure. The car drives fine. Tires show no wear after 3 yrs of driving on them.

Go with the 1573 (8 ply) sportsman fronts. I was in the same situation as you a month or so ago. I wanted less weight up front, but heard bad things about bias ply front runners on the street.
If you want to spend the extra cash you could go with the new SR fronts that are a radial and are basically the new style sportsmans. I almost went with these, but decided to spend the $100 elsewhere and just went with the old school ones.

I have the Goodyears on front of mine. The guys here say there the lightest front tires you can get. I got mine used for $50 with about 50% left on um. And yes, they are REAL soft tires! They loose air pretty quick too with the thin sidewall. Everytime i drive my car i need to fill them up to 40psi or you can feel them wanting to fold when you turn a corner. But i guess they are the lightest you can get so im sure there very thin tires. Id go with at least a Sportsman tire.

I've got ET fronts on my Z and they aren't my first choice to buzz around on. They serve the purpose though.
