on the back side of the steering wheel is 2 holes. i think they are star bolts inside there(or could be allens, dont remember). then it just unplugs and comes right out.

ROB'S SS,
The four screws on the back side of the steering wheel are Torx head.
I found out from a local mechanic the correct procedure for disarming and removing the bag. It takes all of about 20 minutes to disarm it and remove it.

Just a FYI.. I removed the air bags, when you remove the drivers side, the air bag is rivitted to the skin. If you want to keep the stock steering wheel you can order a air bag sim from Bilingsly Racing. I bought one it worked perfect.

Air bag sim is what I need. As long as it's almost weigthless! The factory air bag only weighs 4 pounds so not much weight saving to be had.
Billingsley's web site has no number or anyway of contacting them. Anybody know how to contact them?

You might want to check into an aftermarket wheel instead of the simm. Just went that route w/my 94Z28 LS1 project. Love the look. Just went with a reasonably priced Grant.

AndUAndI,
Probably more weight savings with an aftermarket steering wheel verses an airbag simulator. Maybe the right way to go. I sure like the factory look though.
For now I'm going to find other places to save weight. Billingsley did contact me about the simulator. It weighs 1.5 pounds, the air bag only 4 pounds. Not much savings for $79.00. Sure would have been a cheap way to go had my air bag deployed and I was facing the cost of a new air bag.

Re: Anybody removed the drivers air bag?
I removed my airbags and sold them, but I was left with a stock wheel with a big hole in it. I went the air bag sim route because I like the cool radio/cd controls on the wheel. And when you strapped into a 5 point harness like in my car its easier to controll the radio on the steering wheel than than reaching over hehe.
