Angry wasted $60 on a crappy dyno

i have a 00 ws6 with corsa exhaust, hooker headers and off road pipe, and whisper lid. I went to the k104 import invasion show by me and they had a dynometer for anyone to use, two pulls for $60. When it was all said and done they said it came up with 263hp at the wheels. THATS IMPOSSIBLE! what a load of crap. They are gonna e-mail me the results soo when i get them ill post them up. What a waste of $60, guess i gotta go to a REAL dyno and pay a few hundred.

dont think it was a bad dyno right off the bat . could be something stupid like a loose wire or 2. ive seen it before after someone installed headers one wire on each side was of car ran smoth(equaled each other out) needlees to say he left with with about an extra 70hp and a car running correctly.

it was because it was at an import show. they probably noticed you had an LS1 and back the dyno off 25% so you will not scare away all the rice around,

My car is currently in Thunder Racings possesion @ the moment. Tomorrow I'll find out if I'm going with a 370 all bore, or forged 347 motor.

263 isn't all that far off if they were using the SAE factor and not the "standard corrected" factor. here's an excerpt right off dynojet's website explaining the difference.

here's the page: http://dynojet.com/gmhtpmag3.shtml

here's what it says on the right column first paragraph.
In the United States this is usually Society of Automotive Engineers (SAF) standard J1349 Rev JUN90. Correcting to SAE J1349 alters the data to make it seem as if it was taken when the atmospheric pressure was 29.23 in/hg., the temperature 77°F and the humidity zero.

and here's dynojets formula. The older PEP software (v4.x) corrects only to SAE J1349. The newest WinPEP (v6.03) corrects to not only J1349, but to other standards, including "standard corrected," popular with aftermarket manufacturers (no doubt because it uses 29.92 in/hg and 68°F' to get bigger numbers), "EEC," used in Asia and parts of Europe, and "DIN," used in Germany.

the latest hotrod magazine tests the new ZZ572 motor. they even go over why they got higher numbers than the crate motor is rated for. GM uses the SAE J1349 and the dyno uses the 'standard correction' factor. by changing the atmospheric condition form 29.23 to 29.92 and temp from 77* to 68* yields higher numbers. so all these people thinking their motors are underrated are being duped because they do not know this. they get the 'standard corrected' version and not the SAE that all the manufacturers use. so, when you dyno, make sure you ask for the SAE results. not the 'standard correction'. because it's not the standard.

here's a post where a member posted both the SAE and standard corrected https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamometer-results-comparisons/172062-first-dyno-numbers-my-car.html

it could have been a mustang dyno, and that would be about accurate.

Ryan

edit: a realy dyno should only cost about that much for a couple of pulls, a dynotune, costs a lot.
