Default Yet Another "Break-in period"

I'm going to try & keep this short & sweet.

First i'll explain whats going on. Just after getting the car back after a H/C/I install, & running awesome, I started noticing smoke coming out the exhaust after a pull. Come to find out my #7 cyl took a ****. Not the first time something like this has happened to me but couldn't have happened at a worse time.

I deleted the other thread I had, which now I wish I hadn't, because I was so damn pissed. My car was putting down 351/372 with bolt ons & dyno tune. After the H/C/I install, & racetronix fuel pump/hotwire kit, it put down a best of 421/417. PRC 215 heads,LPE GT2-3 cam & fast 92/92 intake. This is also with a new strange 12 bolt, over the stock 10 bolt on earlier dyno runs. I am very happy with the results of the setup. It was a torque monster.

Now for my plans. I am going to be putting a TSP 383 stroker short block in. I have been doing a lot of thinking. Mostly about getting a bigger cam. If this were a different time I would probably go for it. For now I will just swap everything over. I can always swap to a bigger cam in the future.

Here's the most recent dyno sheet i've been promising.

Thanks man! Was almost going to just do a forged 347. Thought might as well get some extra cubes in at this point.

Update: My TSP 383 should hopefully be arriving sometime this month. Instead of just swapping the GT2-3 I had a custom cam spec'd by Martin@Tick Performance. The cam is 235/239 .638/.621 116+2. Some updated lifters & pushrods will be installed as well. My guesstimate is that the extra cubes along with the custom cam are going to put me around 470/465.

I warned you about the shop you were using. People do heads/cam all the time and your cam was about as mild as they get. It was either the install or the tune. Do you really want to risk the new 383 by using the same company?

First I would like to thank you for trying to warn me. Have you actually had some sort of bad experience with them or just what you've heard? I don't understand why you would straight up blame them, on the install or tune, for what happened. I have been dealing with them for several years now & have always been treated as a good customer. Being an automotive technician myself I think i'm pretty good at scoping out a "good" job. Out of all of the jobs/installs, they have performed on my car, I have yet to be disappointed in their workmanship.

No lope at all. 100% sleeper cam. She would come alive right around 4k rpm & pull hard past 6k. Definitely a good sleeper setup. Too bad it didn't last.

Take a step back and try to be a little objective at the situation. Was any part of your setup over the top or abnormal?
Were you doing airport mile runs when the motor decided to let go?
Being an automotive technician do you really believe it was just "your time" for the motor to go?
Did you cheap out on any of your mods like valvesprings?
I suspect none of the answers are yes. You had a mild cammed car, which if you remember the other thread, I've had your exact cam and beat the snot out of the motor including using N20, and a far more mild setup than thousands of other people run. So why did your motor let go? Either A) Manufacturer defect, B) fuel system failure, C) the tune was too aggressive, D) improper installation, E) you missed a gear. Since you didn't post up a fueling issue or anything related to A) or E), that leaves C and D which are both owned by the company. Like I said, they screwed over a local guy who my mechanic ended up fixing some of their mess and it was blatantly obvious from some of the conversations with them on this board that they are not a top tier vendor. Maybe they're fine for standard install/tuning stuff, but with a more extensively modded car I would not trust them.
