Default 74mm to small for a 383?

about to get the build underway on my T/A. It's a solid roller 383 with AFR 227's and a 248/248 custom solid roller turbo cam. i have a kit with a GT4202 74mm right now. I was planning on gettting the car up and going then uprgrading to a pt88 or something similar. Is the 74mm gonn choke the car too bad to even run it for awile till i upgrade? should i just sell it now and go bigger?

You can run that unit for a while indeed. Just don't expect a 1000rwhp...hehe

borg s374 would work well too... just read about a 6L gto making 800whp on 19psi IIRC. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/D...BEI_178753.htm

A 4202 is pretty similar. I think you should be fine.

dr turbo, what do you think the 74mm will be capable of power wise on that setup?

also once its up and running i wont be hapy with less than 900rwhp and id like to hit 1000rwhp just to say i did it . What turbo would you recomend to accomplish that, and hopefully not get to much bigger physically for fitment reasons.

Like real quick said a S88 would do it as well as a PT88. A 480 might touch a 1000whp through a efficient drive train with a locked converter.

A 400 chassis would not be a bad start and can get you to 1000 with drop in replacements.

Also we built and tuned the GTO, its pretty taxed at about 850whp with the 374-83mm turbine wheel(t4 1.1a/r). A switch to a 87mm turbine wheel would prob keep it from moving as much coolant and make another 25-50hp though. Ideally it needs more on both sides though.

Seems to be a bit, not common at this low of a power level but its a junk yard long block with over 96k on it. Not to mention it was pulled from a fire damaged Escalade and the intake was completely melted lol.
