Critic my idea for a DIY 370 GT47-88 or S91 build
Ive been doing my research for some time now and finally pulled the trigger on going turbo. The 370 in the car now, has a little above 2k miles and is a high compression (11:5:1) L92 nitrous motor. This build will take a long time, im not in any hurry just want to make sure everything is perfect.
Motor:
Mast performance thick deck wall 70cc L92 heads
L92 or Ls9 head gaskets
Custom grind turbo cam
Weisco coated pistons
want my compression around 9:5:1?
6.0l manifolds
102mm tb
100mm mafs
vic jr intake
aarons elbow
Drivetrain:
Yank PY3400-3600 stall for th400
Turbo:
GT47-88mm or S91mm turbo
JGS or Tail 50mm WG
JGS or Tail 50mm BOV
2.5" mild steel charge pipe
4.5" mild steel downpipe
3" aluminum cold side pipe
Cooling:
2600cfm pusher fans
griffin aluminum radiator 27.5w, 15.5h, 3.0t
treadstone or big ebay intercooler
Meziere race electric water pump or stock
160 degree thermostat
Snow performance stage 2 meth injection system
Computer:
dual flash pcm tune, 3 bar race gas tune, 2 bar pump gas tune
iat sensor from 91 syclone 92-93 Typhoon, uses a 3/8" npt bung
MSD LS 2 Step
Boost controller (not sure yet)
Fuel:
2 Walbro 255 intank fuel pumps
Walbro fuel pump install kit
Nasty Performance hotwire kit
MagnaFuel billet fuel pressure regulator w/boost ref.
MagnaFuel billet stainless steel fuel filter
Aeroquip -8 braided stainless feed fuel line
Aeroquip fittings and misc parts to complete install
Racetronix 96lbs low independent flow-matched injectors (or 80lbs high) Injector convertor system
I have a goal of 1000rwhp, now if thats attainable or not with what i listed we shall see. Now some of what i posted, i already have on the car and im sure i forgot somethings but i just wanted to see if everything looks ok for now?
thanks
josh

I want to run my mafs seeing as how i dont know of any tuner within a 7hr trip that does SD. I have it all written down at home, but talking with VEEE8, its not going to be hard with 70cc (or lower depending on options they have) mast l92 heads and Weisco -11 piston (in now are diamond +15cc) with a .053 (.040 quench) ls9 gaskets. When i get home i can post the rest of what i didnt remember.

I would go GT91. Best of both worlds......
Or the S88 which is the competitor to the GT47. Has a better turbine wheel though then the GT47 for larger CI motors. Also if you have the extra dough, spring for the all new GT50-88. Its BAD!!!

I to have heard/seen great things about the GT50-88 and when the time comes to purchase a turbo, its going to be a hard choice. This might be a newb question, but would i gain any power from say a S88 to a S91? I understand that the S88 will spool faster/push less air, and the S91 will spool slower/push more air, but with a auto it wont be a big deal? If i can find someone closer to do a SD i would go that route, but the closest tuner in my area is TSP and im sure they dont. If anyone in the Dallas/Ft Worth area has a SD tuner let me know.

The motor is already built with, forged bottom end that can handle what i want to do, hardblocked water jackets, 1/2 head studs and o-rings. Also i was going to use the stock k member with solid motor mounts to free up a little space for the dp. Thanks for the info on the puller/pusher fans. Also I forgot to mention i will be leaving the dual stage nitrous plate on, will be just for spooling the turbo, and after reading up on the vic jr, having a spacer between the elbow and intake the air will distribute better to each cyclinder than without one.

You should be able to find someone who can tune a SD system. Where are you located? I think the GT4788 or S91 are good choices. I dont think the GT5018 isnt necessary on a 370, but it would definitely be nice!

Other than you crank being stock we do have same bottom end. Having the heads o-ringed seals the combustion chamber and will support much more cylinder pressure with out failing. It normally runs about $250 to o-ring the head gaskets also cost less than a cometic gasket and can be reused if necessary. I was told to do this when using more than 20 psi of boost or more than 500 hp of nitrous. What heads are you planning on using?

Definitely want to ditch the MAF and go speed density. I used the PA Racing K-member (around $300!), and with Spohn solids, was able to fit a 5" DP throught there. With the bigger turbos, you will need a bigger DP. and if you can fit 5", I would do it.
The 47-88 is a great turbo. Spool was excellent with the 1.08 T6 housing on the 370.
The Mast heads are a wise choice.

just my .02 on the tuning part of it.......if all they tune around you is MAF, and they say they cant do SD, ide look elsewhere. IMHO, the only way to correctly tune a car is to start with it in SD to begin with, then after finished plug the maf back in, and scale the tables to get back to your corrected a/f ratio. SO, if they say they cant tune SD, and only MAF, they wouldnt be touching my car.

I thought the Mast L92's are supposed to be out anyday now. You can try getting in touch with Cary at Performance Inductions. He is th eone actually making the heads for Mast. Pricing is around $3K.

Those heads are more expensive then i figured they would have been. Ive been looking into just selling the L92's and Vic JR intake i have now, to go with a set of worked 317s and a Super Vic JR intake. I still think i can reach my goals with 317s i just might have to run more boost.
