Default modified cast manifolds

for you turbo experts, im considering cutting 1 tube off of a truck manifold and using a few sch. 80 weld sockets to make an extra bend in the manifold before it meets up with the rest of the cylinders. I wont be doing the welding, there is a cast iron guy by me who does amazing work. My concern is, will the weld sockets I add in be more likely to crack because of the 2 different metals expanding differently? I figure it wouldnt be a problem N/A but im worried about the extra heat. I would really like to use the truck manifolds for the sake of keeping it simple rather than building something custom for one side of the motor. Thoughts?

so something like a log manifold might hold up better even with all the extra welded spots? I figured the more welds the worse it would get, and actually though the modified manifold was simple. Stupid

i have seen some guys cut the pipe side off stock manifolds, weld extensions or diff ends on, for turbos, seem to hold up, with the proper filler rod/metal

ok, thats what I was wondering. It wont be supporting any weight other than its own, so there wont be much strain on it.

I did this with truck manifolds and schedule 40 pipe fittings. I beveled the manifolds and pipe fittings, pre and post heated with an acetylene torch and just mig welded them to the manifolds. It welded clean and I haven't had any problems with them so far. No turbo supports, going on 2yrs and 7000 miles.

Now, if you are going to just modify one runner on a truck manifold I'm not sure how well that would hold up. May end up cracking due to dissimilar expansion rates.

Snyper did it too, in his 350Z with a LS2 and a PT88, search his name and look for the build thread.

INTMD8- what filler metal did you use?

hellbents10-did you use a similar pre and post weld heat? what filler?

I think im just going to give it a shot on cutting that first tube off and moving it and hope for the best. Might even throw some v-bands on the collectors while im at it. Thanks for the pics as well guys.
