Default What Transmission are your running for ur boost?

Tried to search but couldn't get any good insight. Pulling my 6-speed in the Iroc to go Auto since I have a all motor 408ci going into my wifes 92 Z28 and she wants the manual. I'm not trying to shatter records or break the bank. What are the more "budget" guys running in there turbo setups?

most budget friendly setup is probably a Turbo 400...not hard to get them really strong...

Also, define budget minded. I think I am budget minded, which means I hate to spend money twice or three times and still have the same stuff, I would rather spend more once and be done with it.

The 400 is definatly a great choice, the 400 and 4L80 share alot of the same parts, and are equally as strong. The only draw back to a 400 as compared to the 4l80 is no lock up convertor, no over drive, and you will need to thengthen your driveshaft, and the transmition control can not be done with the PCM in the car (at least I do not think).

If it is going to be used mostly at the track, and you do not expect the car to get better then 12-13mpg on the hwy, and do not plan to drive it on long trips, then the 400 will fit your needs. If you want the strength and reliability of a 400, if you want it to do everything a stock car does, then the 4L80 is the ticket.

Yes by Budget I wanted somethingthat doesnt cost a million dollars (would say more overpriced) and that I could drive up and down the east coast but take it to a track a flog the crap out of it. The car has always been my love so I want to be able to drive it whenever and where ever. I go to the track maybe 2-3 times a year. I figured going Auto would be more reliable in the long run than the 6-speed. And to top it all off the reason i said budget is that i told my wife the IROC was getting a "slight" overhaul. over 15k later I still need a rear end and a trans...

700r4 since you want to drive the car a lot (4 spd vs the turbo 400 only having 3)

Dont bother with a 700R4/4L60E/th350

If it sees freeway time= low mile salvage yard 4L80E with Transgo HD2 shift kit, leave the rest stock to save cash. Yank converter, expensive but worth it.

If its a track/weekend car= TH400

Missed your other post, 4L80E
Get one for around $600, $200 shift kit or Jakes shift kit, $950 converter, flexplate, cooler, etc, $250
total- 2000 not to bad considering it has been proven to hold 600rwhp consistently.
