Default Apexi AVCR: anyone use it?

ill start by giving some info on my build. I have a 4.8 with a 76mm turbo in my 89 camaro. I have it running but still needs dyno tuned before it can be reliably driven. question 1: should
I have it tuned before I even start to install the controller?

question 2: how was the programming process? Can any of you give me a writeup on your process?

and finally, is this controller THAT much better than having a manual controller.

let me know what you guys think about the avcr.

I had 2 fail in 30 days. Wouldn't hit a dog in the *** with one.

Used them quite a few times on a number of cars with no issue. The only failure I have seen was the solonoid on one purchased used. They have gear specific boost control which is nice on a manual car.

There is no "wasting money" because I had got it in a package deal a while back. Should I just sell or trade it and get a more simple, reliable one?

The problem with manuals compared to this is you have one setting. With this if you hit your peak boost and it starts to die off up top you can increase wastegate duty cycles to hold boost up top. You can not do that on a manual. Also in various gears you may need less wastegate (higher gears with more load) and with this you can have lower wastegate duty in those gears. I think they are pretty nice units. Were it me, I would use it or get one with similar features.

2 Vettes had engine damage due to controller failures. Use at your own risk. I would use EB2 or AMS.

The display unit got hot and scamble the settings..caused overboost in both units. My diplay unit would get so hot you could not touch it after 30 minutes of driving.

Very odd, just played with one today on a customer's subaru and had zero issues....maybe the ones you had were wired up wrong or something. Display was not hot in any way shape or form.

I used one for 3 years on a 650hp import and Im going to run one on my 68 Camaro turbo build. I NEVER had issues with the unit. Its accurate and you can set boost by gear.

It's a free market. Use whatever works for you. Wired up wrong is not an option on 3 different cars and 3 different installers. They had a batch of bad units imho. I caught mine....two others were not so lucky.

I'm getting mixed reviews here. It seems like a really cool unit with some good functions, but I don't know if it is worth the risk. I am debating on trading it off for one with less functions but more reliability
