I've seen the exhaust housings coated on lots of turbos...no problems if done properly.

Agreed^ but there is alot of people that have their turbos coated and they dont seem to have any issues, but a blanket can do the job fair enough.

A quality coating from a reputable company will work out great. My father in law has a used turbo that was jet coated and has at least 10k on it and looks perfect.

A friend of mine pulled his out yesterday, and if was practically seized up with rust and corrosion, I figured the ceramic coating would take care of all of that, plus it would retain the heat and flow better.............I was just concerned about the coating inside the turbo housing,,wither it was a good idea or not,,,I would still put a blanket over the coated housing.

So long as your coater is using an actual 2000F+ High Temp Ceramic, you shouldn't have any issues with flaking. If someone tries to coat it with a traditional "Bright Ceramic" you may as well throw $100 out the window as it's useless for most hot-side turbo applications.

Whether the ID is coated depends on the material being used and the builder. Some don't like the ID coated for fitment issues and others want it all coated. Again, survival depends on the correct material.

Someone mentioned a blanket. The more insulation the better, but it's a good idea to Ceramic Coat it first so the housing doesn't become a rusty mess.

Do you think the coating or blanket will retain more heat in the turbo?

I would like to think that the ceramic,or jet coating would protect the metals and retain the heat in the housing and promote quicker air movement, the blanket would enhance that effect.

I hope I'm right ! Lol...

The Ceramic will reduce the amount of heat radiated through the turbo and stop corrosion from forming on its surface. The blanket will provide additional insulation to retain any additional radiated heat.

Great looking work. it's funny you show a PTE housing. if you call PTE and have them ship it coated it isnt coated on the inside and the highly recommend it not being coated. it closes the clearance between the wheel and the housing to close to allow for "normall" shaft play.

you guys had any of your coated ones hit?? or scrap off the coating?? got any pictures of one that has ran it?? if you guys can do it i might send mine to you. would love to have the inside coated also

Now thats a good point ! I did think about clearance issues inside,,I guess thats a question the turbo builders have to answer.........any builders out there, that want to chime in ???

I "coated" my housing with VHT flame proof paint, mostly for rust prevention. Also going to run a blanket. Haven't run it yet, but I'm curious to how long the paint will last.
