Default First startup tune

hi guys, i wanted to ask how you go about tuning on a fresh motor? Im getting ready to startup my first built motor. I did it myself and wanted to know how you go about tuning and also breaking in a new motor. I might be over thinking it but should i get a base tune then break it in or just tune and break in?

The only things to really break in is the rings. This happens fairly quick. I would get a base tune put in the break it in. It's also better to do it under a little load like on a dyno and getting the rpms up some

I like this guys take on it...

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

From what I've read roughly 80% of ring break-in occurs in the first hour. Having known spot on tune is best IMO. Fire it up and go beat the snot out of it alternating between short bursts of hard acceleration and deceleration. Also says wind vehicle weight etc take car of most of the load, no hills necessary.

I took the WG off to break in motors. Not that boost is bad, but I couldn't make less than 9lbs or so.

One thing you want to make sure though is that it's not pig rich.
So if everything seems happy, yes, just go drive it.
Modern rings seal nearly instantly if the bore finish is correct.
