Default Aftermarket cams for "Street" cars

Is there gains to be had mostly down low and in the midrange over a factory cam? I would consider an aftermarket cam if the engine would noticeably pick-up everywhere over my LS6 cam. I would be disappointed if I changed cams and things softened up in the driving rpm range.

Right now the LS6 cam idles at 700 in gear and makes 22-23" of vacuum.

That onthedyno site did a few tests a while back.

But yes there are plenty of gains to be had, with no downsides and it's easy to retain a silky smooth idle if you want

THAT looks like a good grind. Should give close to the LS6 idle/drivability characteristics. Impressive gains for such little duration.

Steve you have a link? I'll poke around and see if I can find it. But yes, I'm looking for a smooth idle...just don't like an engine shaking around b/c it feels too much like a misfire to me, which it sorta is.

LJMS Stage 1 turbo cam versus an LS9 in a 4.8 at 7 psi. 75 hp gain peak to peak... 110 hp gain at 6700.

Looks like there's solid gains to be had going with an aftermarket cam.

very impressive top-end but it seems to lose low-end....exactly what I'm trying to avoid. However, I see that was a 4.8 vs. my 6.0 so that could make a difference (for the better in my case). However, those upper rpms could create a bottleneck with my 83mm turbine.

in something with a 3.622 stroke versus the 3.266 of the 4.8.... that power loss wouldn't happen... reality is the stage 1 is a pretty big cam for a 4.8.... it pulls clean all the way to 7400 rpm in the baby motor....

The onthedyno site does have a lot of cam comparisons for LS engines. Its that dude from Pinks that wrecked the motorcycle at 5mph, I didn't know he did hands on stuff.

It makes you sign up after a few articles, but I cant get a confirmation email for some reason.
