Default Procharged 396 LTX (built by ellwein)

This will be my official build page. While I have been building this car for over 10 years little bit here and there, I have finally replaced everything except for the stock block/rotating assembly.
I had the car procharged @ 10psi for around 8months making 475rwhp on stock heads, cam, rotating assembly with kooks headers. I have the 24x EFI Connection LS coil per plug and PCM so the car was easily tunable.
The car never missed a beat, but began to have terrible blow by. I made a custom catch can setup, that would PUMP oil into the cans every time I drove. I did a leak down test and concluded that the rings were toast. I made the executive decision it was finally time to have a custom motor built for the ol girl and gave Karl Ellwein, the world renowned LT1 engine builder, a call and discussed a plan. I made some quick moves and got a hold of Advanced Induction to start on some ported Trick Flow cylinder heads w/ a custom grind blower camshaft. After that it was a couple of weeks going back and forth trying to find out the right combo to use for the rotating assembly. Ended up doing a Callies Forged DragonSlayer 3.875" Crank, Callies Forged Ultra I Beam rods, Custom Forged Diamond -17.1cc dished blower pistons. I have included some pictures of tear down, inspection, and the engine currently at Karls shop(all engine pictures are courtesey of Karl Ellwein). If you would like to see the complete build, click here http://www.ellweinengines.com/ERE65/ERE65.htm

I Have an engine dyno (not chassis) date setup for June 11th to break in the engine and make sure it makes reasonable hp. Plans are to have the car strapped to the chassis dyno mid July. Hoping for anything above 700rwhp w/ 15psi on a D1SC Procharger. Will do a total mod list in the future.

The block. Decided to go with all 5 main caps Billet steel, however only the center three are 4-bolt splayed.

Default Tuning

EFI Alchemy in green cove springs, FL. He exclusively does LSX tuning, but since im runnin the 24x LS coil per plug and LS pcm he can tune it no sweat. He got 475rwhp out of my 100% bone stock head, cam, rotating assembly w/ 10psi and 0 knock.

Ya know...im not sure. Advanced Inductions spec'd out the heads, cam, springs, valvetrain....i had 0 input on what they did because i could never get ahold of them. They didnt want to talk to me about MY build...they said they would only talk with my engine builder Karl Ellwein. Not very good customer service, probably would not use them again. Only reason I used them is because Karl swears by their work.

Wouldn't be the first time I've heard about AI's less than stellar customer service. Same reason I ended up with Lloyd.

Great build thread excited to see the end result.

This engine can make 1000rwhp if wanted....is that not real power? I have an LS trailblazer SS....they are not all that people make them out to be...in fact it seems like they are exactly the same output as my engine, with parts costing more money...not to mention at the minimum i would have to switch k member and transmission....so thats several thousand right there.....how does that make any sense???

Well said! each motor has their strengths and weaknesses. my car came with an LT1, it is going to stay with an LT1 as long as I own it. meanwhile I am building an LQ4 to swap into my truck

awesome build BTW, any pictures of the car itself? cant wait to hear it make some noise and hurts some feelings!
