Question What does T60, T67, T76 really mean?

I do know that the higher the number the "bigger" the turbo but is the number in millimeters?

The bigger the turbo on the same CI, will you have more lag time between say a T60 & T76?

Say I have a T76 turbo on my 346 CI and later down the road I get my 408 CI in, will the T76 be too small as a whole or just my high RPM HP will suffer?

Yes it means essentially the inducer mm size. And yes the 76 will lag more then a 67 due to the larger inducer and weight of the wheel itself. A 76GTS will work with a 408 quite well up to a certain point, beyond that point it will reach the choke limit. This doesn't mean it won't make big power, it just simply means the turbo will be running in an in-efficient level and the discharge will be super heated.

Bill id start out to about a T76, on my old turbo kit i saw full boost at 2900 rpm (10psi) through stock cat back, 2650rpm through cut out

if you only want about 500rwhp id definatly stay with a stock built 346-348, but like i told you before boost is addictive.

if you did get a 400+ cubed motor, you could change the AR to a higher one, like from .96 to 1.06 or something. that should help, but im not sure when the turbo will run out of air after that.

i think parish (guy here with a turboed truck) has a 408 with a T76 and it makes some good power.

As mentioned this it the turbo truck with a T76, in the street racing videos you can see some turbo lag on a stock cubed 6.0. I dont think its much of a problem or affect drivability.

hey, your talking about me, with a t76 on a 6.0 i do see some lag but it isn't too bad. if i dont do any prespooling it is considerable but i always prespool it to a couple of psi before i race. about anyvids where i races i am brake stalling or doing a rolling brake stall so i see a couple of psi before i nail it.

i hope to be able to report on exactly the same set up but with a lower compresion 408 soon.

the inducer wheel is the 'sucking' wheel right?

Great links!!! Thanks, more reading to do!!!

I love that truck! I showed my 3 year old son and wife your truck and they love it. My 3 year old son Zachary is a gearhead for sure. He loves to go for a ride in the SS and always makes the sound of the engine like your going through the gears, its funny to watch him....

Yes the inducer wheel is the blades you look at when looking into the front of a turbo. The exducer side is the flared out portion of the wheel that is inside the compressor cover.

A quick example is below....

DP=inducer
DG=exducer

To get the trim of your turbo you simply use the formula below

TRIM = ( Dp / Dg )² x 100
