You would have to post up the turbo modle number, or mesure all the turbo wheel sizes would also give us a good idea.
Overall the turbo is one of the cheapest parts of a turbo build, consider the cost of a turbo kit as $4000 w/o turbo, tuning software (2bar hptuners) $300, fuel system components, $1000, gauges, catch cans, etc $500 - thats not really counting drivetrain parts, the actual turbos are around $800-$1200 depending on what you want so getting a free turbo that isn't exactly what you need really isn't as good of a deal as it seams.

OK,since the turbo from a diesel is out of the question...what single turbo would you guys recomend?(on a Budget!)
Size?Brand name?Supplier?
This will HOPEFULLY be a mild iron block 6 lt.,truck manifolds,small IC,blowing through a BG 650 on a Victor JR in a C4 Vette.Trans. will be a T350.
I would like to make 500-600 RWHP.
THANKS again-Dominic

any turbo will work, just depends on what you want to do. the smaller the turbo the less spool time and the less overall power. the bigger the turbo the longer it takes to spool, but you get more power, so do you want 600rwhp with lots of turbo lag, or do you want 450rwhp with a quicker spool? Also that etc must cost alot of money seeing as catch cans are only $50 and you can get decent guages for cheap(though if you're running low psi with a good tune you don't neccesarilly need one)
gauges, catch cans, etc $500

OK, not understanding some of the comments "it's a diesel turbo, it won't work". Alot of the import guys are running the HX35 Holset turbo which is basically a large version GT35, making awesome power with them. Another guy is running an HX55 on a BMW M3 putting down 895rwhp, so again, why won't diesel turbo's work? Now some of the smaller diesel turbos no, like I'm using a HX35 for my truck, which is kinda small for a V8 but I'm mainly going for low end and toruqe looking for pulling power. I wouldn't go any smaller though. If your looking for some good power an HX45/50 would be good on a 364ci LS motor, and that's a Holset Turbo from a Dodge Diesel, you can find em cheap used or rebuilt and will last a long time if done properly.

there is a rule of thumb that say a deisel turbo should work on an engine half the size of the deisel unit.
sooooo a if a HX35 comes off a 6.6ltr then it should work good on a 3.3ltr engine! obviously once you start striving for BIG hp you have to adjust thoes figures as you will need more turbo!
thanks Chris.
PS. something to think about, deisel turbo exhaust housings are of a diffrent compound of iron to gas turbos! they have a max EGTs of about 600degrees C whereas petrol ones can go upto about 1000degrees C i think!
