Default 98 SS fuel pump swap to 99 pump?

My 98 SS fuel pump has high pitch whine when driving more than an hr. I assume this means it's going to die and before I get stranded, I need to fix this.

I've done some research, I have a 99 pump that is good but from what I read it may not work. Something about the 99 being a jet pump and 98 pump bleeds back. They were old posts so just wonder if I'm forced to by a 98 style pump.

I've replaced the pump in the TA with a racetronix but plans are for the SS to remain boltons/cam no big HP so a stock pump is ok.

99 and up pump will not work in a 98 gas tank, youll have to replace the metal gas tank with a 99 and up plastic one

Thanks. So with that build did you replace the pump or the tank?

Since you have a '98, most of the universal in-tank options should be a straight forward install.

We do have our DW301 in-tank pump available, and our universal install kit should have most of what you'd need to get in and going.

I'm all too familiar with over complicating myself. With this SS I'm doing a different approach, keep it simple. In my prior mode of thinking I would've said, metal tank now way and I would've swapped in a plastic tank. Now if it isn't broke don't fix it.

So, DAMN I'll need to buy a 98 pump. I just didn't want to spend 200 bucks.

I never had a pump fail me but I assume when it whines its going?

That can be a warning sign, yes.

Some pumps will get louder when the tank gets closer to empty and the fluid level is no longer submerging the whole pump.

I travel for work and I use my SS on the HWY, I've noticed that yeah below 1/2 tank it whines. Since I do these trips I don't want to get stuck!

Whats the price for your pump?
