Should I be worried about the 10 bolt? (its an a-4)
Alright heres the situation. Did a 1/4 mile for the first time the other night and ran a 13.1 on street tires. I want 12s so I think im gonna get some mt et streets and try for 12s next week. But im also thinking about the 10 bolt. I cant have it breakdown. I know an a-4 is easier on the 10 bolt but after throwing the mts on the back I wonder how hard its gonna hit.
Should I be worried like this?
How long have you guys been running your 10 bolts at the track with racing tires?

Should you be worried? 100% percent yes.. Will it explode? Not necessarily. It all boils down to luck. I know people who have abused their 10 bolts for quite a while before it decided to go. And I also know people who have had rear fail their first time at the track with stickier tires. Put it this way. If you don't have the funds to be able to fix or upgrade your rear end when it fails, then don't do it. Especially if its your daily driver.

Stock 01 ss suspension. When you say "I have seen 11.xx cars with 100,000 on the stock 10 bolt" are you trying to tell me that the reason they help up for so long is because of the aftermarket suspension? Or I shouldnt worry about it and put some mts on?

When you say "I bet those tires will make you go slower" what tires are you refering to? the mts? How are they gonna make me go slower? They are a sticky tire+they are 4-6lbs lighter than my street tires+they will be on a 16x8 wheel vs my current 17x9.5 wheel. They will not make me slower.
I could only get a 2.092 60'

Ive been running street tires all this year and made about 30 passes. Car has never been to the track before and it has currently 173k. One of the last passes I made I wheel hopped really bad and now have the sound of impending failure. Lowest 60' was 1.92 and I always at least get a 2.02 60' even when I barely touch the gas. I think suspension and tire setup has a lot to do with 10 bolt lasting a while. Spinning/wheelhop then dead hooking is what kills these rears. Im gonna rebuild another 10 bolt for this fall and the LS fest then rebuild the one in my car as a spare(just bearings/seals)... then im done with the 10 bolt.

This is a very sticky question ! Imo... Drag radials , Slicks , Et streets ect... will actually help , you dont want the car to wheel hop period ! if you have good rear shocks , and ET's it should hook with no problem ! street tires tend to wheel hop , and that is much harder on parts then dead hooking ! the times you are running with a auto you should have no problems..... again this is just my opinion ! your stock rear should be good for low 12's easily .... but as with anything you never know when something will let go ??? Have fun

Times with drag radials with a DA of 400:
60' - 1.98
1/4 et -12.90@108.4
Times with street tires with DA of 2000+:
60' - 2.03
1/4 - 12.98@107.6
These are both best with about 6 passes each time with the same setup expect for tires all others were nearly the exact same. Notice a much higher DA which is good for about 2 tenths. Maybe your setup might see some better gains from going to a heavier ZR1 rim to a lighter wheel combo will net you some gains but on mine from just switching tires my car went slower. I Also DEAD hooked which is harder on your rearend. I've heard form others that a little tire spin to get you up in your power band quicker helps. Lets just face it a stock stall sucks and inhibits your chance to go much faster. The only real option is a stall. Save your money and get a stall and then buy those tires.

ive been cutting 1.7s all year on my stock 10 bolt with 4.10s and a 3k stall. makes some funny sounds, but still works every time.
Original gears broke on the street on street tires.
Your on borrowed time with a 10 bolt. period.

Everyone's luck is different. I did prob 40 stock passes, then 20 or so with a 3k stall, and prob 20 with full bolt on's and 3k stall with DR's, and 10 nitrous passes, and those last 10 where spraying out the gate on some m/t doing a 1.59 60' with stock suspension, !sway and SFC's.. and i only broke a spline gear..
On motor you will prob be fine.. but then again everyone has a different story..
