Default Serious Question.... need answers!

Lets say i want to put 4.10 gears in a 97 Trans Am...

On WS6store.com i found 82-02 Motive 4.10 Gear Set....

I want to purchase an installation kit also, And i found a 98-02 Gear installation kit?

It should work even though it says 98-02 right? Same rear, right?

Do i really need the install kit, what do i need to install gears?

Thanks in advance,

Kyle

Gears should be the same, and yes, if you are installing new gears, then you'll need to get the complete rear end rebuild kit that they sell. It comes with shims, carrier bolts, and all bearings needed to rebuild a 10 bolt.

Thats what were both talking about right? Since the kit rebuilds the 10 bolt, will it last a while... With slightly aggressive driving 60% of the time?

Yeah that's the one, the master rebuild kit.

With 10 bolts in these cars you're always on borrowed time, get a S60, 12 bolt, or 9" if you never want to worry about driving aggressive on the street and breaking something.

Good luck.

Front seals changed in late 00. I doubt any kit will include 2 seals so they likely come with the early style. 01s and 02s will have to get the right seal. Other then that, all 10 bolts from the early 80s on use the same rebuild kit.

Ok cool. So that installation kit shall work. Would it be less harmful to install 3.73's instead?

You need someone experienced with setting up gears to do the install for you. http://www.moserengineering.com/mose...gandpinion.pdf
This link will tell you what is involved. Bob

Are you auto or M6? If Auto, 3.73s, if Manual 4.10s are good.
